For Leadership Cleveland ’27, last week’s Neighborhood Day was an opportunity to look more closely at the history, geography, challenges, and opportunities that shape Cleveland’s neighborhoods, and to consider how those factors influence the city today and its future.

The day began and ended at MetroHealth’s main campus in Clark-Fulton, with LC27 members exploring the city through history, conversation, and firsthand experience. They visited Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) headquarters and Centro Villa25, explored Clark-Fulton and the Buckeye neighborhood, and heard from leaders working across Cleveland, including representatives from Famicos Foundation, NuPoint CDC, Northwest Neighborhoods CDC, Old Brooklyn CDC, the City of Cleveland Department of Community Development, Cleveland City Council and CMHA.

At CentroVilla25, a nine-year community project in Clark-Fulton led by the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Center for Economic Development, the class shared lunch featuring Latin American food vendors. The afternoon continued with a bus tour through Clark-Fulton and a deeper look at Buckeye that included a conversation with Block Captain Joe Pollard about the realities, challenges, and hopes of neighborhood leadership.

Thank you to all who helped create an engaging and eye-opening day:

⋆ Arin Miller-Tait, City of Cleveland Department of Community Development
