This was the final rendition of my Geography 365: Cartography and Geospatial Visualizations final. This map is something I’m pretty proud of. During the critique, I was advised that it could be a good idea to focus on the entire Subway system as a whole instead of individually labeling a small portion of the map. In this instance, I changed locations from Lower Manhattan to New York City as a whole removing the inset map and just focusing on a legend. I still love the color contrast, North arrow, font style, and the Statue of Liberty added in from an Etsy Map.

The purpose of this lab assignment in Geography 365: Cartography was to really focus on applying terrain to the surface of a map with labeling. I think the terrain looks really great in terms of texturing. Something I did butcher was the labeling of roads. At this point in my learning, labeling was something I desperately needed to work on so it definitely is lacking here. I am a fan of how I did the title though because I made it slightly transparent making the terrain poke through a little.

This was a map made in Geography 365: Cartography and Geospatial Visualizations. This map required a little more skill than previous labs. Our task was to create two maps, one based on raw population density with proportional circles representing the data aiding the communication of the data and the other is population change all focused on Virginia. The first map was focused on change in population from 2010-2020 including gain and loss. The second focuses on the density of Virginia’s population in 2020. The maps are all chloropleth meaning that each range of values in the dataset are matched by colors often going from a light to dark color or the other way around. The Proportional circles aid by giving another visual method based on circles that slowly increase in size or the opposite. There are some issues for sure. In the legend, I don’t place values on the dataset so the numbers are virtually useless. Also the gain and loss circle values are out of whack and some of the way the map features are placed having tiny gaps needs work. The symbology for the most part I like, but the purple may not go over well in the second.

This was our second lab in Geography 365: Cartography and Geospatial Visualizations. The goal with this assignment was to create a nice and balanced layout with five projections of our choice. Each projection could not be super similar to the other, the symbology and fonts were up to our discretion, and we had to include graticules. I think the whole layout itself is balanced alright. There could be some improvements, but overall I like the protections I chose and the symbology. The operations for this lab overall were very simple, but the whole point was to make it look nice.

This was the second portion of our first lab in Geography 365: Cartography and Geospatial Visualizations. The goal of this portion is more simple than the compartmentalized map. This was a simple fluid map where we were just showing the state of Florida, their capital, and a major city. Same flaws exist from the compartmentalized with the title outside of the frame and the odd labeling of the cities, but I like the border thickness, fonts, and symbology.

This was an in class assignment in my Intro class where we were given a prompt and had 75 minutes to complete it just like the in class practical exams. We were given the task of mapping out all the Coffee Shops with a rating of 4.5 or higher and within a 3 mile radius of Oklahoma State University. This is better than the first practical exam, but there are still issues with it. Some I’d like to mention are the Oklahoma State Boundary label on the legend should be removed because it’s extremely unnecessary, the symbology also needs plenty of work because in its current state, the colors are far too bright for my taste and they also don’t really flow well, and I also think there needs to be transparency where you could see a base layer that makes the Stillwater County as a whole look better than just a blob in the shape of the county. You should be able to see urban and any natural details necessary. Map features like the scale bar and north arrow need to be more interesting as well as the fonts. I do like the way I made the title though.

This was our first Raster Analysis we did in Intro to GIS. This was apart of our fifth lab where we were analyzing urban and geographical changes of Las Vegas and Lake Mead from 1995 to 2025. The intent behind this assignment was to play around with different imagery within the Landsat satellite while simultaneously noticing different geographical changes. The first image on the top left is the original one extracted at the beginning of our lab per the instructions using all 11 spectral bands of Landsat 8. For the next images, we were allowed to play around with common combinations such as Shortwave Infrared Landsat 8/9 OLI 7,5,4, False Color (Urban Landsat 4 - 5), and Landsat 7ETM+ 3,2,1.
