Barbell Snatch is one of the most complex exercise movements in the world.
It involves the fastest rate of force transfer through the toes to the fingers, incorporating push, pull, hinge and squat movement patterns.
If you are an athlete who predominantly performs in the phosphagen energy system, this movement is a must have in your program.
Athletes from sports like cricket, golf, boxing, MMA, shot out, javelin throw, long jump, vertical jump, 100m sprint and obviously weightlifting can all benefit from this movement.

But personally from functional standpoint, I prefer the single arm Dumbbell/Kettlebell snatch. The unilateral movement actually mimics so many sport movements than a fixed bilateral movement.

6 to 10 sets, 2 to 5 reps per set twice a week with 2 to 3 days of recovery between sessions is the best way to start.
Remember, the goal is not to snatch heavy, but to snatch with absolute precision form and emphasize on the speed of the movement.

Last weekend in Kathmandu, we held a judges certification course with @nyfcnepal for @nyfcstreetgames and The Gurkha Games. 🏋️

NYFC & The Gurkha Games covered:
✅ The role and responsibility of a sports judge
✅ Movement standards for every event, including spotting valid reps vs. no reps
✅ The judging system, terminology, and signals
✅ Scoring, recording, and the protest/appeal process
✅ The judge’s code of conduct

Our guiding philosophy: “Judge the movement, not the athlete.”

Thank you to @tapoutfitnessnepal for hosting and to everyone who showed up for this course. Fair & consistent judging is a priority for us all. It is what makes competition worth showing up for. 💪

RAISING THE STANDARD OF FITNESS COMPETITION IN NEPAL 🇳🇵

We are proud to welcome Nikolas Lehnert, Director of Gurkha Games and Gracen, who travelled to Nepal to conduct a Judge’s Certification Seminar for our prospective judging team.

The certified judges will be contributing to two major fitness competitions, Gurkha Games, 21–22 November 2026, and Street Games International, 18–20 December 2026.

This course marks a first-of-its-kind structured learning platform in Nepal, focused on developing the knowledge, skills, and professional standards required to conduct a fitness competition effectively. The quality of judging plays a fundamental role in the sporting experience. Consistent movement standards, accurate judging, clear communication, and professional execution are essential to ensuring that every athlete competes in a fair, transparent, and credible environment.

Our objective is not simply to host competitions, but to build the systems, people, and professional standards that contribute to the long-term development of fitness as a competitive sport.

A sincere thank you to Nikolas Lehnert for making the journey and contributing his expertise towards the development of a stronger platform for fitness competition in Nepal.

I will turn 40 this oct. I gifted myself 11 weeks of commitment. Never too late to learn and upgrade.
