The MMC will be back shortly in its new form. For now though - here's a throwback...

Just over a year ago, the @mayamusicalcollective shared its first ever project. What a time it was! 🥹

'Take Me or Leave Me' from RENT 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🔥❤️🏙

- Performed by @maya_waghorn
and @nyladoesmt ✨️

Nyla @nylasurya was an absolute joy to work with - bringing so many ideas, exuding enthusiasm, passion and commitment.

This was the first time I was unapologetically queer and sexy af in my hometown, on the stage where it all began. A bit of a moment! 😆😱

'As The Dawn Breaks' from Standing at the Sky's Edge, performed by the MMC Cast 2025 at @watfringe
@pump_house_watford

🌅

This time last year, we were gearing up for the world premiere of the @mayamusicalcollective ✨️

Standing at the Sky's Edge affected me in a way no other musical has in a long time. We closed the show with this number and, for me, it was a moment of great relief 😅 and surreal-ness knowing that we had done it.

This show was an opportunity for us to showcase ourselves as emerging professionals and this song reflected the rollercoaster that is this chosen career pathway (and this life itself), but also encouraged us - after all our hard work - to be present in the love of music and performing and the achievement of what we created together.

Huge thank you to Becky @bexpops who composed the accompaniment from just her listening ear and incredible musical skill.

Huge thank you also to Jason @jasonbrameld whose lighting design really allowed us to sing this as the dawn breaks around us.

Always a massive thank you to @schiappi for capturing the show 📽

I know I’m a bit late, but I just thought I’d make another nice little post to reminisce on 2025, the most incredible year of my life, spent with some very special people ❤️🥹😁.

Your Daddy's Son.

I remember the month I took practicing this song over and over again and always feeling the sadness this song held.

I would firstly like to say thank you to @maya_waghorn and the amazing @mayamusicalcollective . It was such a pleasure to have worked with everyone to make this show a reality. It was also the most wonderful opportunity to sing such a challenging and emotional song that one of my idols @audramcdonald had sung in the past.

It has been absoloutley lovely hearing this back after performing this so many months ago. Whilst doing my PGCE, I have often questioned; is musical theatre some thing worth pursuing? Am I talented enough? Should I have gone straight into auditioning after graduating from my MT degree? Am I doing the right thing? And I think, that although having this gap to pursue something else for a year, pursuing this little passion of mine may well and truly be worth it. : )

Thank you @redtalent for being so patient and supportive!

The time has come to find the words to round up the most monumental project of my 2025 -

✨️ The Maya Musical Collective (MMC) ✨️

From first pondering ideas in January, to arranging callls in February, to rehearsing and marketing like no tomorrow ahead of July, performing our show live to an amazing audience, to marketing and releasing the recording on Patreon, and all the ridiculous work in between, to now 🛣🏁

Wearing so many hats including...
🤹🏻‍♂️ Self-producing
🤹🏻‍♂️ Managing a team
🤹🏻‍♂️ Directing
🤹🏻‍♂️ Choreographing
🤹🏻‍♂️.Performing a challenging track

...and seeing my vision turn to reality has given me a newfound confidence as I navigate this industry.

The key thing I've been saying to people is how much joy and power it has given me to be in the driver's seat, see my creative ideas come to life and collaborate and spend time with people I admire. It also became a saving grace for me to put my focus & energy into this during difficult patches in my personal life.

The main goal of the MMC is to open more doors, not just for me but for my team. It makes it so worth it to have the team affirm that I've achieved some of the impact I strived for:

✨️ Joy & confidence to drown out self-doubt, essential to keep going with this ridiculous performing profession.

✨️ Inspiration to make their own luck and opportunities, instead of waiting for someone else to decide they are right for something.

✨️ Building experience & credits

✨️ Content!

✨️ Profit to share 🥳

✨️ Creativity, collaboration and community.

I am so thankful and moved by all the people who made this possible - in so many ways ❤️

This is not a final goodbye from the MMC; firstly, everyone in the collective is ready to hear from you when you are 🤩☎️✨️, and plenty of ideas are already dancing around my head till we meet again.

EMCEE FROM 'CABARET'

@mayamusicalcollective

This role inspires me so much and was so special to play. I was thrilled to open my show with 'Wilkommen'.

I'm very excited by new & near future projects that have capacity to adapt the music to suit the vocal ranges of the performers they wish to cast. Nevertheless, I'll see you at the @kitkatclubldn auditions for Ensemble & Cover Sally Bowles next year, where I will be just as electric 😉✨️
