Yesterday was a special day in Albany! It was an honor to present the 2026 Commissioner’s Awards, recognizing 19 members of my @nysdcjs team for their exceptional service to the agency and their fellow New Yorkers. A lot of our work is anonymous, but often, the most important work is anonymous. I’m thrilled to work at an agency where we can take the time to recognize each other and to lift each other up. Congratulations to this year’s award recipients, all nominated by their peers for the recognition.

Members of my @nysdcjs team explored the intersection of youth justice and technology at a daylong event presented by our partners at the New York State Youth Justice Institute. Today’s workshops focused on technology, equity and justice; AI and the future of youth work; and mental wellbeing in the digital age. Through its Coming Full Circle mircrolearning series, the @ny_yji convenes researchers, policy makers, practitioners, and individuals with lived experience to drive action in the youth justice field.

In 2025, a total of 10,629 children were reported missing to police across New York State – 94% were reported as runaways. For over 140 years, FCA has operated Nassau Haven, Nassau County’s only 24/7 emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth.

FCA recently collaborated with our fellow providers on the Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation. Over 100 professionals and 40 organizations joined forces on the three-day operation to locate 34 children and teens reported missing and connect them with relevant services. In addition to our emergency shelter, FCA offers case management, mental health resources, educational and vocational assistance, and clinical interventions designed to support runaway youth as they re-build their lives.

We are proud to stand together with our fellow service providers to bring children to safety. Thank you to @nysdcjs , @childrenandfamilyservices , @ncptf , and @nyspolice for leading this important initiative and our partners Child Advocacy Center of Nassau County, @eacnet , @keybridgesmiles , and Nassau County Department of Social Services.

SCATI extends our deepest appreciation to the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Missing Persons Clearinghouse, the National Child Protection Task Force, and the New York State Police for the leadership, planning, and coordination behind the Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation.

Over the course of three days, more than 100 professionals representing nearly 40 agencies and organizations worked together to locate 34 missing children and teens and connect them with care, services, and continued support. This operation was not only about finding young people—it was about understanding what placed them at risk and building a response around safety, stability, and their individual needs.

We are especially proud of the SCATI members and partners who participated in the Suffolk County response, including the Suffolk County Police Department Human Trafficking Investigations Unit, Suffolk County Department of Social Services, Nassau & Suffolk EAC Network/Safe Harbour, and the many law-enforcement, child-welfare, advocacy, and service professionals who brought their expertise to this effort.

To our SCATI members: thank you for your dedication. The work you do often happens quietly—reviewing cases, following leads, supporting young people, coordinating services, advocating, and staying at the table long after an operation ends. This is why multidisciplinary partnerships matter.

Finding a child is only the beginning.
Listening. Supporting. Stabilizing. Preventing future harm. That is the work that follows.

We are grateful to everyone who made this response possible.

34 missing kids located through this week’s Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation.
202 across New York in 24 months.

Behind those numbers are investigators who kept looking, advocates ready when kids were found, and 40 agencies and organizations who showed up around one shared purpose: finding and helping vulnerable youth.

So proud to work alongside the @nysdcjs Missing Persons Clearinghouse, @childrenandfamilyservices, @nystatepolice, and every individual who dedicated their time and attention in Long Island this week—and deeply grateful to @timtebowfoundation, @thejensenproject, Answer the Call, and every supporter who makes it possible for us to bring this work into communities at no cost to participating agencies. ❤️

#NYSOCFS was honored to co-lead the Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation alongside @nysdcjs and the National Child Protection Task Force (@ncptf). With support from @nyspolice and 100+ professionals, the operation located 34 missing children and teens and connected them with services.

"I am so proud of OCFS’s partnership with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the National Child Protection Task Force to facilitate our state’s fourth successful Missing Child Operation (MCO). I am also grateful to @govkathyhochul for her ongoing support for vulnerable young people who need our compassion and assistance as they face complex challenges such as human trafficking and homelessness. The Missing Child Operation is unique in that it is much more than a targeted law enforcement operation. The goal is to offer a different type of intervention so that youth will be met with safety, choice and options. OCFS’s aim is to reduce future missing episodes by helping youth understand the resources available to them and by supporting our partners in offering different responses to youth.” ~@nysocfscommissioner Harris-Madden
