Why the name @dr.pastrami? It’s hard to summarize my work as a historian into a catchphrase, but here’s my attempt. What do you think?

Meet Hanna Davis (GSAS MA '27), a 2026 Gallatin Global Human Rights Fellow who partnered with the Access Center for Human Rights (ACHR) in Paris, France, which advocates for the rights of Syrian refugees.

💜 What is your major or concentration?

I am a GSAS master's student in Global Journalism and in the Near Eastern Studies program at the NYU Kevorkian Center.

💜 What made you apply for the fellowship?

I applied for the fellowship to fund a summer of research abroad, where I could dive into topics related to Lebanon and Syria that I'd been exploring.

💜 What was your experience like as a GFHR fellow?

Being a GFHR fellow was a great experience. The stipend covers the summer, and I'm not sure I'll ever get another chance to work abroad on a topic I'm this passionate about.

💜 What is one piece of advice you would give someone interested in applying?

My advice is to have your research project in mind before you apply, or at least know where you'd like to go and what you'd like to do. It will make a big difference in your application!

Interested in becoming a Global Human Rights Fellow? Submit the 2027 Global Fellowship in Human Rights application. Apply by November 1, 2026. Link in bio.

A day in the life as a student at NYU Arts & Science looks different whether you are studying @nyucas, @nyuliberalstudies, or @nyugsas.

From top to bottom, Safiya Hamani (LS ‘28), Ali Bhimani (GSAS ‘28), and Delia Apetroaei (CAS ‘28) take us through their days.

Safiya is majoring in Global Liberal Studies and International Relations, and she is studying at NYU London. Her favorite class of the day was International Organizations. She spent part of her day walking around London, and she said she feels like she discovers a new area of the city every day.

Ali is an MA student in the General Psychology program in NYC. During his day, he had lift, diving practice, a neurolinguistics lecture, and a stats lecture! He also went to an origami-making event.

Delia is also studying in NYC and is majoring in Physics and Journalism with a minor in Math. During her day, she took Quantum Mechanics, Computational Physics, and Broadcast Journalism. In her Broadcast Journalism class, Delia got to run the teleprompter for the newscast the class put on. Delia ended her day by attending a journalism event and having Pho for dinner with a friend.

Thanks to all three students for taking us along for their days!

Diverse Faces in Conservation Part VII, Meet Rafael Baez at NYU

“My name is Rafael Baez & I’m a PhD student in the NYU Biology Department with a focus on disease ecology. As a wildlife disease ecologist, I study how wildlife adapts to life in the city, & how it deals with different pathogens encountered while here. I specifically like to study disease ecology as it relates to species that people don’t think about a lot because oftentimes, these are the exact species that are indicators of a larger environmental change, or some ecosystemic change that will eventually have ramifications for people.

I’m originally from the Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico. Growing up, we were by the coast in a little town called Arroyo & there was a big reef there. By the time we left the island, the entire thing had begun to bleach significantly. This reef that rooted me to my environment for most of my life I saw disturbed in a major way. The recognition of that at a young age made me conscious of seeing it in other places. When I came here, I saw a totally different environment that I could tell was altered in many ways, & I felt the need to do something about it. To protect what’s here & to learn about the importance of it.

I didn’t know what I had to do to get into a [PhD] lab at first & I wasn’t familiar with the process of applying to schools. I wound up trying to do everything I felt was relevant that might get my PhD application heard. During Covid, I went to Florida & Ohio, where I worked at a wildlife rehab center & later as a field researcher. I learned a lot about biodiversity during these roles & by accumulating all these different skill sets, I decided I wanted to do research. I fell in love with wildlife, I realized how much power we had to improve both human & animal life if we just understood the environment, or the fact that everything is a system that’s working in tandem to produce something stable. When we perturb that, when things get upset, that’s when we get outbreaks, that’s when we get extinctions, that’s when we get all these things that we’re all working to slow down & fix.

If I were talking to myself in the past, I’d say...”[CONT IN COMMENTS]

I’m proud to share an important milestone in my journey: I have officially signed with Gonzalez Models and Mayhem Studios NY, marking my first professional representation in the modeling and creative industry.

Filming this campaign while walking through Washington Mews at NYU felt especially meaningful. With its historic architecture and distinct New York character, the location provided a fitting backdrop for a moment that represents both where I am today and where I hope to go next.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with agencies and creative professionals who value individuality, professionalism, artistic expression, and continued development. This is an exciting first step, and I look forward to the opportunities, experiences, and growth ahead.

Proud to represent C4 Energy and bring that energy into this new chapter. ⚡️
