Another Green Team restoration day in the books!

This month, we split into 4 crews and got to work across the park:

🌿 Castor bean abatement
🥾 Trail maintenance ahead of the Ascot Hills Challenge 5K on September 26 @ahc5k
🌼 Pollinator Garden weeding
🌾 Native seed collection for future restoration

And because restoration is better with a little treat, our volunteers enjoyed complimentary matcha courtesy of The Outdoor Coffee Co. @theoutdoorcoffee.co 🍵💚

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to work, learn, connect, and PLAY with us! Every month, this community shows what we can accomplish when we care for this land together. 🌎🌱

See you at the next one on October 10, 2026!

They didn’t just build a park. They built a community. 💚

For more than 20 years, Jerry Schneider has been the heart of Ascot Hills Park. His vision, perseverance, and dedication transformed these hills into one of Los Angeles’ most treasured natural spaces. Alongside him was his late wife, Gloria, whose support helped make that vision possible.

As LAist beautifully wrote, “They didn’t spend 20 years just building a park in El Sereno. They built a community.”

That community is the park’s greatest legacy.

We honor Jerry, Gloria, our Park Advisory Board members past and present, community partners, and the hundreds of volunteers who have restored habitat, maintained trails, collected seeds, planted native species, removed invasive plants, and cared for this special place.

Every second Saturday, our Green Team continues this tradition of stewardship. What started as one person’s vision has grown into a place where neighbors become friends, volunteers find purpose, and people connect with nature and one another.

As Jerry reminds us, this is “slow, steady work.” The landscapes we enjoy today are the result of thousands of volunteer hours and countless acts of dedication.

The story of Ascot Hills Park is still being written, and we invite you to be part of the next chapter.
