I finally made some room on my bookshelf for the books I got from the Oahu Indie Book Festival that happened couple weeks ago. Aren't they all just beautiful?! 🙀😍 I had such a great time meeting amazing local authors and connecting with other bookish peeps. I've started to read a few and will review soon. Mahalo to @oahuindiebookfestival and the venue host @volcanichawaii for an amazing event! 🙌🏽📚✨️

Saturday. @honolulusilentbookclub read-up at @lanikaibrewing. We had a great turnout with new faces and good drinks, and I participated as a reader, not a host for this one. 🙂 I finally finished The Winter of the Dollhouse. It was soooo sweet. Just a lovely book. I had The Other Salad with a full pour of the Pillbox Porter and then a glass of the Li Hing Mango Sour. It was all very good. Thank you for having us, Lanikai Brewing!

Then it was next door to @volcanichawaii for the @oahuindiebookfestival YA & Adult pop-up. I saw a lot of friends and acquaintances and I don’t care how it looks next time: I’m getting selfies with everyone.

My TBR is so enormous now, I swear I saw a Saint Bernard with a cask of rum hanging around the other night, so I wasn’t going to spend money, but you can see how that went!

My primary objective was to get my copy of @shaykauwe’s The Killing Spell signed, which I finally did. Can’t wait to read it!

Hugest shout-out to @cass_kim_writes for putting this amazing event together. If she’s organizing something, I want to be involved. And to all the writers for putting themselves out there!

I finally got to go to my first O’ahu Indie Book Festival event last night at @volcanichawaii! It was a small event but it was great to meet some of the local authors and I’m hoping they won’t mind if I give them a shout out here. I definitely had to walk away with a bag of books from some, new to me, authors!

My haul:

💕 Reverie - Book one in the Realm to Ruin series by @authorkcrainey

💕 In Which Everything Goes by Evangeline Berry

All of these books are available on Amazon and most are available on Kindle Unlimited.

🧡🤟🏼hey bookfam! WOW 🥹 Last night at @oahuindiebookfestival was amaaaazing!! I was a little anxious going by myself, but even before entering the space, I saw some friends outside and immediately my cortisol levels dropped 😂😮‍💨

1) the haullllll 😍🤤 I couldn’t buy a book from all the authors but I did take a souvenir from each table! Also I unexpectedly won a giveaway and got the notebook and cutie puakenikeni socks 🥰
2) My beautiful friend @melissamiyokoscott was a big reason I came to this event!! Definitely wanted to support her and watching readers come talk to her and buy her books in-person was so special 🥹 so proud of you titah!!
3) I didn’t take many photos of the actual space (a rock climbing gym 🧗‍♂️), since it was PACKED when I first arrived (LOVED to see that!!), but I had to snap a shot with the sweet kitty 🐱
4) I FINALLY got to meet @shaykauwe after following her here and obsessing over her book the killing spell. She was super sweet in letting me chat for a bit after the event was pau (finished) and also gave me a quick lesson on how to say hi & introduce myself in Russian (which made me realize I was not made for this language 😂) and I taught her how to sign aloha & introduce herself in ASL 🙃 if you haven’t yet, go read her book!!!!
5) she had some UK editions out, not for sale, but that I finally could see in person!
6) Loved meeting @cl.walters and getting a bit of her writing backstory: she already has 18 books out and has 2 pen names!! Also her husband manned the table while she was on the panel and I was cracking up chatting with him!
7) There was a panel on publishing with a few of the authors, but it was hot inside and since I’m not a writer I stopped for a second and then kept making my rounds with the other authors 😅
8) @authorkcrainey and her assistant/daughter 🥰 her book is a fairytale retelling and I was immediately sold 😍
9) @heluhelurewards @noonoohana.hi shoutout 🙌🏼
10) @evangelineaberry this 12 year old author started writing at 11!! and I found out we go to the same church 😂

Came to support the Oʻahu Indie Book Festival @volcanichawaii with my book swap besties from Walking Sisterhood of Oʻahu 📚💛 Nothing better than finding new books signed by local indie authors, and spending the day with women who get your love for stories and sisterhood. 🫶✨

Join us on June 6th from 4-6 pm for a very special read-up at @lanikaibrewing!

Whether you're reading the latest bestseller romance novel, listening to a thriller audiobook, or scrolling through a fantasy book on your e-reader, all formats of reading and all types of genres are accepted! Just come and read something you love!

We will have a dedicated time for reading and optional socializing throughout the night (it is a silent book club after all, haha!).

We have one special twist to this SBC! After our silent reading time, we will walk over to the Oahu Indie Book Festival YA and Adult pop-up event at @volcanichawaii! Why go alone when you can go with a community of book lovers?!

We'd love for everyone to join, but no worries if you can't go; just know you'll be missed! 😭

Pro Tips:

Sign the rock gym's waiver (it's on their website) ahead of time so you can quickly check in & get started on the Scavenger Hunt!

No shoes are allowed on the mats in the gyms, so if you don't like to have your dogs out, plan to bring a pair of socks!
