My Calico Quilt, Cross-Stitched by Acts of Kindness: Ocean’s Envy.

Ocean’s Envy is the musical moniker of Texas-based attorney and songwriter Kurt Mantheiy, an artist whose work blends folk, Americana, indie, and alternative influences into something imaginative and deeply personal. Balancing a legal career with a thriving creative life, Kurt brings a thoughtful perspective to his songwriting, crafting music that is rich with storytelling, curiosity, and emotional depth. His songs often feel like journeys, inviting listeners into vividly drawn worlds filled with reflection, wonder, and unexpected turns.

What I love most about Ocean’s Envy is how fun and adventurous the music feels. There’s a fearless creativity running through the work that keeps every song engaging, as though you never quite know where the next turn will lead. At the same time, there’s a warmth and sincerity underneath it all that makes the music feel inviting rather than experimental for its own sake. Listening to Ocean’s Envy is like setting out on a road trip without a destination; full of surprises, discovery, and the excitement of seeing what’s around the next bend.

Made In Japan in the year 1992, this Ibanez RG570 is one of my favorite guitars. The finish looks incredible in all lighting. The neck feels amazing with perfectly finished frets and a dark rosewood fretboard. The bridge pickup is a DiMarzio Tone Zone just like my hero John Petrucci used on “Images & Words” (huge shout out to @thegitter for getting me some very special records!) The lo-pro edge tremolo is by far my favorite of all “Floyd Rose” type systems. It’s currently setup to Drop D but with everything tuned down half a step. I use Ernie Ball Slinkies 10-46 gauge for strings exclusively on this one. I’m using this guitar a lot on the newest @oceans_envy songs. I can promise you I will never sell or trade this guitar. It’s either going in the coffin with me when I die or it’s going to a friend who can give it a good home and play it for another 30 years. Good instruments aren’t hard to find, but truly great instruments are a rare gift.

Super stoked for this event, and appreciate @oceans_envy for reaching out with the invite.

I am looking forward to playing alongside some new people who are surely better performers than I am. 😆
