PAINTERWRITER - Curated by Andrew Bracey & Jenny Eden opens soon from: Saturday 12th September to Saturday 3rd October 2026 PV Friday 11th September, 6-8pm PainterWriter is a group painting exhibition that investigates how painters’ own practices influence the forms, concerns and tropes that appear in their writing. It is a twofold exhibition, presenting paintings by twenty-one painter-writers alongside an example of their writing made across and within the production of paintings. Although painting has long been interpreted by art historians, theorists, critics and art writers, what we call the ‘painter-writer’ (the painter who writes) is a central yet critically overlooked figure. Their co-extensive writind-with-making meanings and values from ‘inside practice’. By analysing this field, PainterWriter seeks to reveal the distinctive insights painters bring to writing and to highlight a significant but under-acknowledged area within painting discourse. Been a busy, productive, exciting and joyful couple of days installing PainterWriter at @oceansapartgallery with the wonderful @jennyrutheden. We have spent a lot of care considering layout of the show and drawing the connections between the ways painters make paintings and writing without being obvious or obtuse. We hope you like this sneaky peak and are rushing to the public view on Friday 11th September (I know) from 6-8pm. It's gonna be a belter, a show we are both proud of. SHOW INFO PAINTERWRITER @oceansapartgallery Saturday 12th September to Saturday 3rd October 2026 PV Friday 11th September, 6-8pm PainterWriter is a group painting exhibition that investigates how painters’ own practices influence the forms, concerns and tropes that appear in their writing. It is a two-fold exhibition, presenting paintings by twenty-one painter-writers alongside an example of their writing made across and within the production of paintings. Although painting has long been interpreted by art historians, theorists, critics and art writers, what we call the ‘painter‑writer’ (the painter who writes) is a central yet critically overlooked figure. Their co‑extensive writing‑with‑making materially reshapes painting’s meanings and values from ‘inside practice’. Forlengelser ~ Research Week! Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting @ranneigrenne alongside @k.a.t.e.butcher + @carlos.alberto.correia, aka @butcher.correia.studio, bringing another slice of Trondheim to Manchester! The three artists are the next international guests in our curatorial programme + will bring a reimagining of their project Forlengelser to PINK in October 2026. First produced for @babeltrondheim, Forlengelser is a performance-exhibition created by @ranneigrenne in collaboration with artist duo @butcher.correia.studio. Bringing choreography + visual art together, the project explores how dance might operate as a quiet protest against productivity, efficiency + constant growth. We always host a research week ahead of producing an international project. We believe artists need time to explore a place, build relationships, follow new lines of enquiry + let the body settle before deeper work begins. Across the week, we visited spaces, met artists + curators, shared food, walked, talked + began thinking through how Forlengelser might take shape in a new context. Thank you to every curator, artist, organisation + friend who welcomed us in and shared their time, spaces, ideas + knowledge so generously. These early conversations form an important part of how the project develops, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make the week feel so open + full. More on the project coming soon! Four people pose around road signs for Deva City Office Park and Audacious Church on a wet Manchester street, with red-brick buildings and trees behind them.

Today is the last day to see SLIP @oceansapartgallery . What a pleasure it has been to work on this exhibition with @ruthmurrayartist and spend time with these beautiful, thoughtful artworks and learn more about ceramics . Ruth and I will both be in the gallery between 12-4pm today, would be great to see you there. Artists: Hannah Brown, Roberta Cialfi, Charlie Duck, Rebecca Elves, Marielle Heir, Linda Hemmersbach, Bethan Lloyd Worthington, Ruth Murray, Matthew Richardson, Lottie Stoddart. SLIP brings together ten artists whose practices explore the boundaries and possibilities of paint, extending beyond the flat surface and into clay. Clay is Just Thick Paint, a phrase often attributed to Peter Voulkos, proposes ceramic surfaces as sites for painterly experimentation. In this understanding, painting and sculpture converge: wet clay, slips, and glazes are handled like impasto, built up, scraped back and reworked to create expressive forms where colour, texture, and shape become one. Together, these works propose a porous boundary between disciplines, where painting does not end at the edge of the canvas but continues, materially and spatially, into the round.
