Ever wonder what happens to plastic once it’s pulled from the ocean? 🌊♻️

Spent the day with @theoceancleanup in Oʻahu learning about their work and getting hands-on sorting and weighing ocean plastic. And WOW, the amount of fishing gear we came across was eye-opening.

Such a cool opportunity to see this work up close and a reminder of why both ocean cleanup and preventing plastic pollution at its source matter so much. 💙

I definitely feel more confident that the future of the ocean can be much healthier given the tools we have access to 💙 the nexus between ocean science, art, immerse experience, tech, indigenous Science & true matriarchal leadership is something that MUST be better explored. this summit has been a launch pad for ocean-climate solutions that may light the path to a regenerated world… or at least a shot at saving humanity from our current state of demise (by healing our ocean) 🤘🏾 we got this people!!! we’re on the same ship sailing forward together :))

I had the opportunity to photograph science happening.

As the young male elephant seal got to Rio de Janeiro’s beaches, the @econservation_ team kept protecting him from human disturbances.

Yesterday at Copacabana Beach, though, the biologists needed to get closer to the animal because he had pooped, and they needed to collect a sample.

As a conservation photographer, it’s fascinating to capture moments like these, raising awareness for both the beautiful creatures of our planet, and the people protecting them.

Still thinking about my few days in Oʻahu 🌊🌺

A few weeks ago, I got to join an incredible group of young ocean leaders for the @oceanuprise Summit.

We learned from some amazing people across the ocean space, got hands-on sorting marine debris, spent time learning from Hawaiʻi and the people who call it home, and had so many conversations about conservation, community, and the future of our ocean.

I also got to screen The Last Fin during our film night 🎬💙 Sharing something so personal to me with a group of people equally passionate about our ocean was incredibly special.

But the best part was the people. I left Oʻahu with new friendships, new perspectives, and even more excitement for what’s ahead. 🌊

So grateful for this community. 🫶🏼

breaking news from the bridge 📣

earlier this year I sailed aboard the OceanXplorer from Palau to Singapore, my first time crossing the Coral Triangle with scientists, game designers, and artists. while crossing some deep water it hit me: the ocean has been running the original AI on this planet for billions of years. we’re finally learning how to listen… with the help of advanced tech alongside indigenous science!!

now I’m heading back to Singapore for the @oceanx Summit, speaking alongside @dr.sylviaearle and @jamescameronofficial on ancient intelligence (the OG AI ;) still pinching myself 💙

Another year speaking at @oceanuprise – a gathering of young ocean climate leaders skill building for planet ocean 🌊 @parley.tv

I chose to lift them up around ocean advocacy this year, because it’s our pathway to changemaking under the current systems we have in place and can be SO complex to navigate as a passionate young person wanting to make a difference.

My workshop centered testimony creation, deep dive into different tactics to employ, and I got to share some key wins from @futureswell like our pilot creator lab, our national partnerships, and the momentum we’re building with our creator coalition. We had a handful of coalition members as participants in the summit, some that I got to squeeze in person for the first time after working together for months 🥹

I was honored to be speaking alongside legends that have given their voice to our planet and communities for so long – truly the best first “work” opportunity back 🌊🌍 @chaleia_nokea @mikecoots @marina_alaska
