“Blessing Hand 4”, Acrylic and Oil on Cast Aqua Resin, 8” x 10”, 2024
.
Here’s a detail and side view images of another painting being shown with @officialartko as part of their Five on the First in December. This blessing hand painting is a continuation of an idea I’ve been working with abstracting various fragments from religious art historical paintings. I’m fascinated by the effect of imposing a shaped border in combination with these fragments. By doing so, the frame accentuates the abstract relationships, fosters a reverential glow, and as a recontextualized fragment it connects the gesture with less sacred references. This particular hand is from the Blessing Christ painting by Titian. I’m excited to share these paintings with you and I think all together they create a curious and compelling group.

“I think art serves as a way to communicate in a way that is cleaner and more universal than what language can often achieve. My work serves as a way to relate the universal strangeness of everyday living that we all experience.” – @thomasbils

“Growth is only observed by looking backward, and I mostly try to keep my head down. Some kind of growth will always come from working, working, working. I am happy to see that my paintings have become more precise and lush over time.” – @sarasuppan

Sara’s painting, L’artiste, has found a beautiful new home in the Colorado mountains. We’re delighted to celebrate this placement—learn more about her work on Sprout 🌱via the link in our bio 🔗.
