We had a lovely weekend in that there London Town. Friday night was the @londonfrocktails party. There was much anticipation and frantic sewing in the 2 weeks preceding the event. I was feeling very smug having decided to wear a previous make, and not make anything new. However, I decided a week before hand that I needed a jacket to go with it 🤦🏻
I used a textured faux fur fabric, 1980's pj top pattern, added buttonbands, welt pockets, a collar and lined it, essentially making it up as I went along. I managed to get it done the evening before, so decided to knock up a Japanese knot style bag as well.
@seamsconfused wore an amazing 4/5 piece suit - trousers, jacket, shirt, waistcoat, flat cap and baseball cap most of which was made in the 2 weeks before. You wouldn't believe he's only been sewing since March last year!

Many thanks and congratulations to the amazing organisers for creating such a lovely evening! @seamsconfused was delighted to find a couple of other men who had sewn their outfits too!

We also went to the Knit and Stitch show at Ally Pally yesterday, bumped into several Bee's, a couple of people who had been at the party and @sozoblog on the Fabric Godmother stand, but no photographic evidence of that!

✨ Wow, what a night! ✨

Our hearts are so full! 💕 A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make London Frocktails such a wonderful success, and to every single person who travelled from near and far to be part of such a special evening. Seeing so many of you come together makes us wonder… should we rename it International Frocktails?! 🌍✂️💃

You all looked absolutely incredible, but it was the moments in between that made the night truly unforgettable… the squeals of joy, the big hugs, the laughter, and the sheer happiness of being together. 🥹❤️ If ever we needed a reminder of just how special our sewing community is, this was it. A community built on creativity, kindness, encouragement and connections that reach far beyond the sewing room.

Here’s to the friendships rekindled, new connections made, memories created and the magic that happens when we bring this wonderful community together. We’re so grateful to each and every one of you for being part of it. 🥂🧵💖

There are lots more photos to come, but in the meantime, here’s a little reel to capture some of the joy, energy and magic of the evening. Turn up the volume and relive a little of the Frocktails feeling with us! ✨

Finally posting the outfit I made for both @thedressmakersball AND @londonfrocktails - thanks to everyone who came to both for not mentioning they’d seen it before!

Hugely enjoyed both of these fabulous events. Just can’t thank the organisers enough for all the work they put in into bringing the sewing community together in these glorious ways. So lovely and inspiring to meet creative people from all over the world in their amazing makes. The skill and variety were phenomenal.

I made this dress from a slubby silk bought at @dalston.mill.fabrics You can see their amazing range online but it’s well worth a visit to the wonderful rambling shop. They have this large checked silk in a variety of gorgeous colourways. This was my favourite. It’s my aim to prove that dopamine dressing can be brown!!

The dress is the @merchantandmills Trapeze, cut shorter at the front and longer at the back. Then I put a big pleat in the back as well. The big fabric flower was made from a template in @taukomagazine I fell in love with it when I saw their model wearing and smelling it on the front cover! The black denim culottes underneath are the Junos by @merchantandmills Then my big black velvet scarf was made for me by my mum about 30 years ago!

The shape and layering were inspired by @chelseyceja (a beautiful post where she mentions being pear shaped about 15 rows down in her feed).

As always, fantastic to go to these things with @whatamandamadeagain who made two staggeringly beautiful and completely different outfits.

Next up @lefrocktaildeparis in November. It was lovely to meet the organisers at the London event. Will make something new for that!

ONE MORE SLEEP!!

Team Frocktails are getting very excited to see you right here in London tomorrow, just 24 hours until we get together in our beautiful venue @swanlondon_ with it’s incredible views over some of London’s iconic and historic landmarks!

We’ll finally be able to chat in person, ooh and aah over each other’s outfits (pointing out the bits that went wrong is not allowed!😜) enjoy some delicious nibbles, share our knowledge and tips, strut our funky stuff (sho nuff) on the catwalk and, finally, boogie to our especially curated playlist💃🏻🕺🏻

But before all that (Thursday) I know some of you are going to @knitandstitchshows at Ally Pally so look out for me @susanyoungsewing working on stand C38 with @tillybuttons and @sewthreadbear will be at the show too trying not to buy all the fabric…😜 update: @offshesews will be there too but she’s under a restraining order😅🤣

It’s been so long in the planning and now it’s nearly time, safe travels everyone and see you there, it would be just the 4 of us otherwise!! 🥂🍾

London Frocktailers! 🥳🥳🥳

Only 6 days to go before we get together to celebrate our sewing passion, admire each other's frocks, chat, laugh, drink, eat and jiggle about to some music 🎶 Something like that.

So... are you ready? Room booked, train/plane/automobile sorted? Outfit sewn or selected from the wardrobe?

And do you have all the deets for the evening?? The latter came to you via email two weeks ago so if you haven't seen it now's your chance to say.

Entry is on name basis only so don't worry about printing any tickets.

All that's left to say is we simply cannot wait to welcome you all 🥳

🥂💃🕺✨️🎊

If you’re coming to London especially for Frocktails and you’ve got some time to explore there are SO many options. These are a few I’ve enjoyed recently and which will still be on in October.
@fashiontextilemuseum is very near the Frocktails venue in Southwark and there will be a new Ozzie Clark/Celia Birtwell exhibition on by October which should be wonderful🤩
Pre-booking definitely advisable!
@fashiontextilemuseum

At the Victoria & Albert Museum you can see the stunning Elsa Schiaparelli exhibition, it’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in my opinion but you’ll definitely need to pre-book @vamuseum

Schiaparelli at the V&A in Kensington.
Or there are 2 new sites now open in East London @vam_east and V&A Storehouse

Entrance is free except for specific exhibitions

At the King’s Gallery next to Buckingham Palace there is a wonderful show featuring many gowns and outfits worn by the late Queen. Pre-booking essential! @royalcollectiontrust

If you want fresh air and a walk then at @kewgardens you can see 30 of Henry Moore’s monumental sculptures.
Ticket required but pre-booking not usually necessary

Hopefully the grass will have returned to being a little greener by October!

Finally (except it isn’t finally because there are unlimited places to go!) you could take yourself to @libertylondon to see the newly-expanded fabrics department.

This is a tiny selection of exhibitions you could choose to visit while you’re in London, if you’d like a specific list DM us and we can send it to you. We’re not going to email everyone because (in our experience) people don’t read them and then ask us the questions we’d already answered in the email!
We want you have a great time but not be overwhelmed with info you don’t want or need!

Team day out! Ok, maybe just a Team coffee at our fabulous venue @swanlondon_ sorting out the practicalities of the evening 🥳

We can't wait, we're super excited to be welcoming our Frocktailers there on 9th October for a fab night ✨️

So what should you expect? Arrival is between 18:30 and 19:00. After we've checked you in, there will be a welcoming glass of bubbly whilst we all go "OMG it's so lovely to see you/meet you at last! How gorgeous is your outfit? What's the pattern?".

And then some food (canapés, bowls, cheese board), to give us strength for the catwalk 💃 You don't have to take part in the catwalk but we'll assume you will want to unless you tell us otherwise when you arrive. There is a bar in the room where you can buy additional drinks.

Then we'll dance the night away 💃💃 or at least until midnight, which we're sure is plenty long enough. And chat, chat, chat, because we all know when 100 sewists get together there will be lots of chat! 🥰

The only thing left to say is please do let us know of any allergies or if you're coeliac so we can separate your food if necessary.

Oh, and very much not last... we're sure you'll be wanting to arrange get togethers whilst you're in London for the weekend. We're happy to share any of your suggestions in our stories if you tag us but we'll leave you to make the arrangements ☺️ btw the Swan London has a lovely and friendly public bar (we're standing in it on the first photo) where you can have coffee, lunch, whatever, with friends.

Can't wait! 🥳🥰

Hey London Frocktailers….. it may have been a little quiet on insta but at LFHQ we are busy, busy, busy! Here’s a little introduction to your organisers and we’re looking forward to sharing updates with you over the coming weeks and months…
Most of you will know Sue @susanyoungsewing who now has a wonderful new muse to sew for!
👶. Elke @sewthreadbear is our very important financial controller amongst many other things and she is trying hard not to let managing the venue budget distract her from sewing her outfit! 😊. Janene @ooobop is busy sewing art out of old clothes for her open studios this weekend and she’s soooo looking forward to making herself a new frock for a very special party in October…😉 we’re very sad that Lena isn’t able to join us this time but Michele @offshesews is very excited to join the team and get to know you all 🥳 #londonfrocktails #thosewhoknowsew
