Thanks to juror, Ina Kaur, this Ripple Yunomi will be part of the 19th Annual Art of the Cup 2026 at the Center for Southern Craft & Design, which is located within the Ogden Museum Store beginning Saturday October 24th - December 7, 2026.
 Thursday, October 29: Reception for Art of the Cup 2026 from 6-8 p.m. 
A Note from the Juror:
“Art of the Cup 2026 represents an expansive range of approaches to the humble, familiar form of the cup. Artists transform its functionality into a site of inquiry, where form, surface, gesture, ritual, and cultural memory converge.
The cup is, after all, an object we hold, use, share, and encounter repeatedly. In these works, it becomes something more: a record of presence and a witness to our time, carrying traces of place, memory, and lived experience. The display brings into dialogue a range of Southern ceramists, foregrounding both technical rigor and distinct aesthetic languages. Some works remain intimate and restrained; others extend the cup toward figuration, landscape, and abstraction. Design and illustration become vehicles for expression.
What connects them is not a singular aesthetic, but the capacity of the cup to hold difference, to accommodate radically varied ways of seeing, making, and being. Together, these works reflect the vitality of contemporary ceramics in the South: rooted in tradition, yet continually questioning, transforming, and expanding what the cup can be.” Ina Kaur

Thanks to Louisiana Contemporary 2026 presented by the Helis Foundation and the juror of this year show, Sarah Jones, for the Best of Show Award. The opening is tomorrow during White Linen Night at the @ogdenmuseum Please check the @ogdenmuseumstore for some of my pieces available for sale there. In these reel, I have videos of some of the wonderful artwork that was selected for this year show.

Ekeko in Custody is a very personal artwork.
As an immigrant, I offer this piece as a tribute to those who journey far and alone, with their hearts in their rough and tired hands in hope to build better futures, and as a symbol of both grief and resilience. The Ekeko endures. So do we.

Gente / People: “THE COLOR OF MUSIC” portrait series WON a recent New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Award for its development. This SAT, MAY 23, 2026 @ 1329 SAINT ROCH AVE from 6-10pm, you can view the original works of pastels on paper portraits of Jelly Roll Morton, Mahalia Jackson, and Buddy Bolden. Drop by my OPEN STUDIO to experience this new visual history project. In development are portraits of Lulu and Danny Barker. Archival prints are FOR SALE to help raise more funds to support this new series of portraits, which honor the iconic creators of Jazz, Blues & Gospel. A book project that documents this series is also in development. Ashé y Adelante!

Gente / People: I’m hosting an OPEN STUDIO SPECIAL this SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2026!from 1-5pm @ 1329 SAINT ROCH AVE. There are large works-on-paper and large paintings in oils and acrylics on view. These works have recently received an ANDY WARHOL FOUNDATION Award. Many such artworks were begun during a 4-month JOAN MITCHELL CENTER Artist-In-Residency Studio I was awarded at this regal facility supporting visual artists here in New Orleans. See these works at my Arts Studio and be moved. These works all honor the many Latin American immigrants, who have been VITAK to the REBIRTH of New Orleans Post-Katrina. Ashé y Adelante!

Gente / People: My “COLOR OF MUSIC” Series has WON a New Orleans JAZZ & HERITAGE FOUNDATION Grant Award for its further development. I’ve created portraits in pastels of “Jelly Roll Morton, Mahalia Jackson, and Louis Armstrong” to highlight local musical giants that forged these iconic genres such as Jazz, Blues, and Gospel during the Jim Crow Era. I’m hosting an OPEN STUDIO this SAT, APRIL 18 from 6-10pm. You can view these portraits in the sacred studio space where they were created at 1329 SAINT ROCH AVE. My watercolor replica of “The Welcoming Committee” is on view at @ogdenmuseum now through May 24. If you didn’t get to see it at Jazz Fest last year, this is a great opportunity to see for yourself the painting made from my original sketch for the mural. Completed before the mural was finished, it informed the mural process and also gave birth to the limited edition prints.

Mugs bearing the watercolor replica design are also available in @ogdenmuseumstore ! You can conveniently see and buy these fantastic and very useful souvenirs right here in New Orleans (as well as many other very cool items made by locals).
