An excerpt from our monthly “For Transnational Communities (FTC)” meet up this month.

In it we looked into the things we think make living ‘dark’ and shared openly what it means to hold space for each others ‘dark’ moments as transnational communities. This excerpt delves specifically into living in London and inviting friction.

If you’ve never heard the term, transnational communities are people who’s identity, life journey, geography, national experience and story of formation is deeply intertwined with various national identities and experiences to the point that no one national identity feel like a sufficient home. Our community is currently led by @joymiracle_ and @creativeencounter with a vision to be fully community-led as a polity making a home for transnational people.

The community is free and open to all, so if you would like to join, pop us a DM.

Note on the caption: there is an error where ‘inviting friction’ was worded “invite Christian” and “friction” is spelt “fiction” accidentally.

A lot of people ask me where I get my fabrics or how I source them.
Most of the time it’s from my travels around Europe and getting lost in certain design districts like Paris.
Sometimes it’s my usual go to warehouses in London.

This time I got lucky when a good friend @oh___frank , who’s also a talented musician and artist I’ve hosted at one of my popups mentioned @renee_materials
I found this premium technical soft camo nylon from an unknown designer while there.

I’m more picky with fabrics than ever, so if I walk through a heat wave with fabric rolls on my shoulder, it means I’ve connected with it! Only about 6metres so keep an eye on what I make with it 👀

The fashion world is fucked up.
Designers need to stop mass producing.
The system is begging for a change.

Yesterday evening I went to JAR.

An experience in Commuinty & Connection, with others & with yourselves.

Anca created such an amazing space…& the Maestro was providing some beautiful Sonics.

Really amazing evening 🤲🏽😎

“Observe the world not only with the eyes of your mind, but also with the eyes of your heart.”

I met Anca by chance.

I drew her a small painting, but our encounter turned into a beautiful, thoughtful conversation, and the beginning of a friendship🎨💖

When I learned that Anca was a musician, I wanted to hear her thoughts on creativity.

She didn’t talk about talent.
She didn’t talk about hard work.

She simply said:

“Pay attention.”

As an artist, I sometimes fear that I might run out of creativity. But whenever I let go of that fear and simply pay attention, I find that the universe keeps opening doors for me, sending remarkable people and unexpected ideas my way.

Anca’s thoughts deeply resonated with me, as well as her idea of balance: not just taking from the world, but giving back to it🙏🏻

Her words encouraged me to keep doing what I do: capturing fleeting moments with my brushes and paints, and sharing people’s stories with the world.

Thank you, Anca @oh___frank , for your kindness, your wisdom, and for sharing this conversation with me❤️
