Join us for the big reveal! 📚 On Saturday 10 October, we're announcing the winners of the 2026 Karajia and Environment Awards for Children's Literature at Harry Hartog Chatswood (NSW), and we'd love you to be there.

🎨 1:30pm: Kick things off with a nature-book-inspired craft session with Shannon from @ohcreativeday
📖 2:00pm: Judge meet and greet with John Williamson (@johnwilliamsonmusic) and Kristin Darell (@krisddarell), plus author signings
🏆 2:15pm: Winners announced by the attending judges

It's the perfect way to celebrate the start of Nature Book Week (10–18 October) and Love Your Bookshop Day.

Plus, Harry Hartog is donating 10% of sales of the shortlisted and winning titles to the Wilderness Society to help protect nature for future generations.

Since 1994, the Environment Award for Children's Literature has celebrated books that inspire a love of nature. And in 2022, the Karajia Award was added to honour First Nations stories of connection to Country, culture, community and language.

We are excited to release the live music recording for ‘HARI’S BONES’, the 13th title in The Sound of Picture Books series, featuring Danny Parker’s words and narration alongside the gorgeous illustrations of Rache Antonio and brought to life by Matt Ottley’s delightful “bones” 🦴music!

The music was recorded in Perth by Lee Buddle at Crank Studios and features the incredible talents of the following musicians: Alix Hamilton on Viola, Melinda Forsythe on cello, Esther Lee on oboe and Natalya (Nat) Czernicziw on Bassoon. What a treat to work with such talented artists. We can’t thank them enough 🙏🌈❤️

A beaut morning celebrating the launch of ‘Home’ by @roryhmatherauthor and illustrated by @matt_shanks, published by @scholastic_au

This gorgeous picture book is a tribute to how ‘home’ can mean different things to each of us. Told through lyrical and thoughtful verses and sweetly detailed illustrations, it’s a book that will be much enjoyed by little ones and the grown-ups who read to them.

It was a treat to visit the delightful @therosereadbookshop in Sydney’s Summer Hill (just two months old!), and a bonus to meet up with kidlit friends at the launch and afterwards too.

There’s something so tender about the idea of home.

Growing up with migrant parents and grandparents, ‘home’ was never just one place. There was home here, the life they had built, and home in Greece, the place they had left behind. Two homes, two places of belonging, connected by stories, culture, memories and people.

That’s what I loved so much about Home, the beautiful new picture book by @roryhmatherauthor, illustrated by @matt_shanks and published by @scholastic_au . It explores the many different ways a home can look and feel, and reminds us that home is as much about the people we carry with us as it is about a place.

If you’ve ever tried to pick a picture book and got bamboozled in the bookshop or library, I get it.
The pain is real.

I’ve always been the Nana who buys beautiful picture books for every special occasion and I can’t tell you the number of hours I’ve spent ummh-ing and aaah-ing in the bookshop.

If only I’d been able to find someone who was consistently reviewing the latest picture books.🤔

Since it’s winter and I have no use for my shaving cream might as well use it to make CLOUD SLIME! This fun take on slime takes only minutes to make but will entertain your kids for hours.
