Ombra mai fu.

The opening aria from Handel’s Serse (Xerxes), 1738.

Even as a child, I found Handel’s music deeply moving. I was always told I was far too sensitive. For years I saw it as a weakness. Alhamdulillah, I now understand what a gift it is to feel and notice so deeply.

In this aria, King Xerxes marvels at the gentle, comforting shade of a tree. Yet beneath this simple moment lies something deeply human: our yearning for shelter, stillness and peace. To recognise the sacred in the ordinary.

Perhaps we are all searching for something greater than ourselves, a divine presence that surrounds us, embraces us and makes us feel whole.

The same spiritual yearning I explore through KUN.

Different paths, perhaps the same longing.

It's a beautiful thing to be human.
Alhamdulillah الحمدالله

The mounted works have arrived! ✨

A combination of sketches, photographs, test prints, studies, experiments and works in progress. Little pieces of the journey and process behind the final work.

I’m curious, would you purchase an artist’s sketches, studies, tests and works in progress? Do you find the journey just as interesting, or do you prefer collecting only finished works?

Would love to hear your thoughts! Let’s hear those comments below 👇🏼

Old family video of me (with my younger sister in the frame) spending an afternoon in London’s infamous Trafalgar Square back in the days when you were still allowed to feed the pigeons.

I distinctly remember proudly announcing that the first pigeon to land on me didn’t hurt at all. 😆

I was a remarkably outspoken and confident child… then life softened the edges a little. 😂 aka humbled me ( not by choice may I add ).

Still, she shows up every now and then to remind me she never really left.

When I tell people I was a bit of a bully in my younger years.

Going through old videos.
This one is of me hogging the see-saw.
Terrorizing Shaima 😆

Fatam ( my sisters ) unique style of drawing… this is old Donald’s very ominous looking farm. I gotta say that rabbit sending shivers down spine and the cow seems to be plotting my demise … all in all a very cute attempt at an unintentional ,albeit cute, unsettling display of farm animals 🤣🫠🫣
Oh and pigita the pig is something else 🫠🫣🤣

The Dubai I know and love overflows with humanness and intimacy. I grew up surrounded by so much culture, tradition, and warmth; it baffles me when people attack it and reduce it to a commercial glitch of a metropolis. This is not the Dubai I grew up in, nor is it the Dubai that is rooted in my everyday existence and being. I love my city. I am proud of to be a part of its history.
