First, I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity and guiding me throughout this journey. I want to thank my family and friends for supporting me every step of the way. I also want to thank my Clyde coaches, Coach Jake, Coach Mel, and Coach Garcia, for everything they’ve done for me, and my Ohio Speed coaches, Coach Justin and Coach Jordan from Ohio Speed Academy. I also want to thank Coach Jones for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to continue my career at Buffalo.

🍽️ Building a Balanced Plate for Performance! 🏃‍♀️💪

As an athlete or active individual, fueling your body with a balanced plate is key for performance and recovery. But did you know your plate should adjust depending on your exercise intensity?

Every Balanced Plate Should Include:
✔️ Carbohydrates: Essential for energy! The higher the exercise intensity, the more carbs your body needs to fuel and recover. Include whole grains, starchy vegetables, fruits, and simple carbs pre/during training.
✔️ Protein: Supports muscle repair and growth. Aim for protein like chicken, fish, turkey, dairy, beef or eggs.
✔️ Healthy Fats: Crucial for hormone health and satiety. Think avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, full fat dairy, salmon.
✔️ Color (Vegetables/Fruit): Rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to support recovery and immune health.

🏋️ Hard Training Days: Half your plate should be carbs to sustain energy and aid recovery. Add a quarter for protein and a quarter for color, with a side of healthy fats.

🤸 Moderate Training Days: Decrease carbs to about one-third of the plate. Maintain a quarter for protein, a good portion for color, and some healthy fat.

🚶 Rest or Low-Intensity Days: Prioritize color and protein, with a smaller portion of carbs and healthy fats.

⚠️ But here’s an important consideration for athletes recovering from REDs, HA or ED: Your nutrition needs are not necessarily going to follow a typical “low-intensity day = low-carb plate” approach. During recovery, all of your plates may need to look more like a hard-training plate to support adequate energy availability and hormone recovery.

And for many endurance athletes, a truly “low-intensity plate” may not make sense either. overall carbohydrate needs can remain high even on easier training days because of training volume, glycogen demands, and the need to adequately fuel recovery.

Building balanced plates that shift with your training is a game changer for performance. Struggling to build a balanced plate and not sure where to start? Book an intro call with a Performance Dietitian!

A lot can happen when you just keep showing up!

From training alone during COVID, to finding @ohiospeedacademy my senior year, to becoming a D1 athlete, to injuries, doubts, All-American honors, conference titles, and eventually standing on an NCAA podium.

There are so many people behind the athlete I am today. My high school coaches, my jumps coach, my OSA coaches and teammates, my college coaches and teammates, and my family and friends have all played a part in this journey. ❤️

I think my younger self would be pretty proud of how far we’ve come.

And the best part? I’m not done yet! 🤍
