“There's space for what you bring.”

In Episode 40, Rae Watters joins us to talk about game mechanics of "Role Call" to consider how interactive experiences shape the way we understand other people, how designers balance intention with play, and why our individual perspectives matter. Role Call is a game Rae is working on that will be released in Spring 2027. It's a conversation about games, consent, identity, and the potential for design to help us recognize the value of difference.

“It’s very important that you understand the lived conditions of the people, of the community, in which you are trying to work with.”

In Episode 39, Shadrick Addy Kuteh joins us to talk about design for social impact, drawing from his work with communities in West Africa and his research into cultural preservation and policy. We talk about using virtual reality as a tool for advocacy, the importance of lived experience and cultural context, and why community partners need to have a say in the design process. We also explore ethics, personal values, and how social design can be about recognizing opportunities to improve people's lives and environments, not just solving problems.
