As we inch toward our brick and mortar ‘grand opening,’ we are going to take some time to look back on our many pop ups. We want to make sure to extend appreciation and gratitude to the many folks that have graciously opened their doors to us.

Today we’re turning our attention to @thegeekpeek. We were thrilled when they opened in July of 2023. They were going to be a fun and unique addition to @old.brooklyn. Jill and Mike, the owners, are two of the kindest folks you will ever meet! We became instant friends!

On June 28, 2024 we were asked to help celebrate their FIRST ANNIVERSARY! Then on July 11, 2025 we were called upon again. This time to celebrate their SECOND ANNIVERSARY. It was a no brainer for us to help celebrate their THIRD ANNIVERSARY this past July 10th. It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve Hot Dogs to their incredible customers while helping commemorate the shop’s birthdays.

We also did a holiday, staff appreciation Hot Dog bar drop off last December. It’s safe to say that Jill and Mike value their community. We admire them so much and can’t wait to call them business neighbors someday SOON.

And a HUGE thank you to each and every one of you that came out those nights. We appreciate you so much.

“Oh, baby, I get by (By with a little help from my friends).” Let’s flash back to April 20, 2022. Our first ever “friends and family” tasting a month before our debut ‘Pop Up.’ (More about that on a later post) Our dear friend, @dklempay, stopped by our house to try our condiments, toppings, buns and hot dogs. We had some laughs, some drinks and ate some good food. She gave such vital feedback about what worked well and what should be on our first menu. Great times! Even baby Olive wanted a taste!

(Fast forward to today, Denise is the owner of a really cool business in Morton, Washington, @birdchildwa. If you’re ever in the area check it out! Massages, yoga and cute things!)

A little Cleveland history with a whole lot of attitude!

Some places are more than just restaurants — they're landmarks that have been part of the local landscape for generations. @charliesdoghousediner on Brookpark Road is one of those places!

Dating back 74 years to 1952, Charlie's began as part of the Dog House chain, a collection of roadside spots where hungry customers could grab hot dogs and hamburgers through a walk-up window. The building itself is a piece of roadside Americana, with its doghouse-inspired design and those unmistakable pups keeping watch out front.

Over the decades, Charlie's has evolved into a beloved little neighborhood diner, serving up breakfast and lunch while holding on to the quirky character that makes it so memorable. It's the kind of place that reminds you that a restaurant doesn't need to be fancy or big to become part of a city's story.

And what a personality this place has! I had an absolute blast during my visit. The staff brought plenty of sass to the counter bar, keeping things lively and making the whole experience as entertaining as the food was delicious. My Charlie's Original Waffle was a treat, and the Dog House Omelet made for one seriously satisfying breakfast.

Of course, I couldn't leave without capturing this Cleveland original in a sketch. There's something special about preserving these wonderfully quirky places — the buildings, the history, and especially the people who give them their character.

Here's to the old-school diners that keep Cleveland's history alive, one waffle, one omelet, and one sassy comeback at a time!

Sometimes you stumble upon a word, a sentence or a paragraph, that absolutely resonates with you and the experience you’re going through.

This excerpt is from a recent book that was published by @benbellabooks titled “For the Love of Restaurants” written by @adubbya.

We’re opening a brick and mortar, as you well know, and to find a book that tells the story of someone opening their first restaurant. But, not only his first restaurant but he turned an empty room into a place with its own identity. We are currently turning an art gallery into a restaurant. So, we can relate. Truly grateful to have found a book like this.

We recommend grabbing a copy at your local bookstore or borrow from your local library. Anyone who loves restaurants or the hospitality industry, this book will strike a chord.

📣 It’s time for a Frankielynn Public Service Announcement. 📣

Little Lloyd says “C’mon. Pick up your shit!” Litter bugs are not bugs. They’re pigs! Help keep the @cityofcleveland beautiful and dispose of your trash in the proper receptacle!

When we open the Brick and Mortar, we intend on working with the @rustbeltriders and @culletglass to help ensure we dispose of waste properly.

All transformations take time. We’re learning, just as all our industry friends can attest to, turning an empty space (or any space) into a functioning restaurant takes a lot of work. A team of contractors, electricians, plumbers, etc. have to coordinate their schedules to ensure the job gets done. It takes a lot of work, a lot of hours and most of all, a lot of patience. We’ll continue to update you as we have more to share.

We just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their continued interest in Frankielynn, as we transform from Hot Dog Cart to Restaurant. Your support is what keeps us going!
