📚🖤 Stephen King is most definitely one of our favourite authors!

There’s just something about the way he tells a story, builds suspense, and creates characters that stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page. 👻✨

When it comes to favourite reads, anything featuring the brilliant Holly Gibney is always a winner for us! 🕵️‍♀️ And of course, we can’t forget IT — a true classic that proves Stephen King knows exactly how to get under your skin! 🎈🤡

Whether it’s a gripping mystery, a psychological thriller, or a story that keeps us awake at night, Stephen King never disappoints. There’s always another world to get lost in, another mystery to unravel, and another reason to pick up just one more chapter! 📖🖤

Who else is a Stephen King fan? And what’s your favourite King book? 👇

Explore my TBR shelves with me! 🔎 I’m continuing to highlight some of my unread books in a series of #tenonmytbr posts, alphabetically by author. ✨ Join me!

Here are ten books written by authors with O names. Plus an objet d’art that decorates my shelves. If you were me, which of these books would you read first? 💬

✍🏻 Jack of Spades by Joyce Carol Oates, a psychological thriller about an author with an alter ego.

⚓️ Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian. I’m reluctant to start the Aubrey–Maturin series until I have more of the 20 books and time to concentrate on them. Should I make this a priority or not?

🍀 At Swim-Two-Birds by Flann O’Brien. I’ve tried it but have yet to buckle down.

🏆 Without My Cloak by Kate O’Brien, an Irish family saga that won the 1931 James Tait Black Memorial Prize.

💕 Wise Blood, The Violent Bear It Away, The Complete Stories by Flannery O’Connor. This will be a reread and one I’m looking forward to.

😢 Personality by Andrew O’Hagan was the 2003 James Tait Black winner but a story about an anorexic child star sounds too sad to read.

❤️ Selected Short Stories of John O’Hara. O’Hara was as good (better IMO) than Fitzgerald or Hemingway and deserves wider recognition. His big three — Appointment in Samara, BUtterfield 8, and Ten North Frederick — are excellent.

😳 The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje. I’ve put this off for decades. I want to read it just so I can get it off my shelf.

🎭 Long Day’s Journey Into Night by Eugene O’Neill. Sounds grim, but I’m trying to read famous plays so will give it a try.

👩🏻 A Clergyman’s Daughter by George Orwell. I can’t say Orwell’s “most experimental” novel appeals to me. Maybe I’ll pass on this one.

I tagged a few to play along. ✨ But if you see this and it looks like fun, please share your TBR stacks alphabetically. Get creative if you don’t have 10 of any letter — go with fewer books, combine letters, whatever. It’s supposed to be fun!

Spinster September! 👵🏻📚🧡🌼

Yay for another #SpinsterSeptember hosted by @pear.jelly this year! 🤩🌟

Even though I’m a bit late sharing my two books for this month, I had to show off the most gorgeous #vintagebook that @oldbookdreamer sent to me!

I’ve been dying to read 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝘂𝗺 for a couple of years and, for some reason, never got around to it. Now, I have the most beautiful copy with dust jacket!

Thank you so much, Virginia! 😍❤️📕 You absolutely surprised and spoiled me with this amazingly generous (and fantastically awesome) book gift! 𝘐’𝘮 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘵! 🤣🎉

When I accidentally came across 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 on World of Books, I knew I had to grab it. I love this weird #vintagebookcover so much! I’m really enjoying the story so far!

Nora, I’m so happy you created this awesome hashtag! 🥰

Which book would you read first?

Death in the Grand Manor by Anne Morice 😱🏡☠️🎬

Happy #FurrowedMiddlebrowFriday 🥳🎉

This Friday, I’m sharing a #crimefiction book from #deanstreetpress instead of the usual FM book! 🤩

“𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵. . . . 𝘌𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦. . . . 𝘔𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺.” - 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗼𝗻

𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: 4🌟 A fantastically fun vintage mystery!

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗗:
💜 Fast-paced mystery set in a small English village
💜 Energetic, slightly snarky and wonderfully real Tessa Crichton
💜 Love-to-hate villagers, gossip and lots of details about actors/acting
💜 Intelligent and clever Ellen Crichton (Tessa’s 11-year-old niece)
💜 Surprising and satisfying ending

Have you read any 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 mysteries?

I have a feeling that these Tessa Crichton mysteries might just get better and better. I cannot wait to read the next one!

Many thanks to my dear friend, Victoria, of @dean_street_press_ltd for recommending #annemorice to me! 🥰❤️

I’m so grateful and happy that DSP has republished these #goldenagemystery books with such awesomely retro covers! 😍📚

What are you reading this weekend, book friends?

Following a post by @barbaras.book.obsession for a scavenger hunt of #housesinbooktitles I knew I had a few. I just didn’t know how many!😄 I’ve always been quite the little domestic diva and I guess it shows in my reading material. (There are a few titles that might be a little more grand than houses, but you know, we can’t all be peons. 😉)

God willing, I’m going to put my home on the market soon and relocate. The search so far for as nice a replacement has not been easy. The again, I’m putting the cart before the horse (I have to sell this house before I can actually buy another one 🙃).
So here I am, just taking my time now to show off my welcoming foyer. 😚 Please poke your buddies who might want to move to the Pacific Northwest and let them know this little beauty will be on the market soon! Also, tap anyone you think might want to join in this challenge! 🏠

P.S. The last photo is another testament to why I need to do these trivia challenges more often so I know what I have on my shelves: apparently today instead of “Double Drabbleing”, I’m “Two Handedly Hemmingwaying”. 🤲🏻🤷🏻‍♀️

Vintage Magazine Book Haul! 😄📚❤️🎉

Ian @ianhouse73 and I had a super fun time at an indoor flea market last weekend!

When I found a stack of #vintagemagazines at one of the vendor’s tables, we realized that it was a friend of Ian’s! 😱

He gave me an awesome price if I bought them all…so I did! Woo! 🥳

Although this is not a true #twelvebooksontuesday (because I’ve sneaked a bunch more in the next photo), I still couldn’t resist sharing these #lovemagazines for #twelvebooktuesday 🤣

One of the stories is written by Maysie Greig, one of favorite vintage romance authors! I think I’ll read that one first.

But, they all look so good! 🤩

Which #vintagemagazinecover are you most attracted to? 😍

My Best Girl by Kathleen Norris 😍💙📙💕
*
For #bookfriendfriday I’m sharing another lovely #vintageromance that I loved!
*
Rating: 4.5🌟 A fast-paced, sweet, and utterly charming romance from the 1920s!
*
To me, this story is a lively mix between 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆 by Winifred Peck and 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗲’𝘀 by Susan Scarlett (with a pinch of 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 by Juliet Wilbor Tompkins)—only the story takes place in America, instead of in England.
*
Maggie Johnson, a young girl working at a department store, struggles with her poor shabby life (and disagreeable family) while her friendship with a new employee (Joe Grant) helps her to have hope and make positive changes in her life—with mixed results!
*
If you love stories about department stores, perky and sweet female protagonists from a poor family, lively conversations and a happy ending, this book is for you!
*
I’m so grateful to my dear friend Andrea @sorrythankyou79 for recommending this book to me. We frequently buddy read #KathleenNorris books together and I’m really excited to chat with her about this one now that I’ve finished it.
*
I can’t wait to watch the 1927 silent #movieadaptation of 𝗠𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹 with #MaryPickford 🤩🎬
*
Have a wonderfully cozy and relaxing weekend!☺️💓📘

The Shining Tree! 🤩🎄🌟
*
4.5🌟 A hidden Christmas treasure!
*
I was SO lucky to have come across this vintage book at an antique store a couple of weeks ago!
*
I’d never come across this book or title before, but a quick skim of the authors featured in this middle grade/YA short story collection caught my eye. Favorite authors such as #AngelaThirkell, #LoisLenski and #AdeledeLeeuw were included in the list, so I knew I had to take 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 home with me.
*
Although it was a little more money than I’d hoped to spend, I’m so glad I did!
*
𝗠𝗬 𝗙𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦:
🎄 The Best Christmas by Adele de Leeuw
❤️ Christmas at the Old Place by Carolyn Bailey
💚 Sudden Mary by Emma L. Brock
🎄 The Shining Tree by Hildegarde Hawthorne
*
All of the stories were interesting, enjoyable and 100% Christmasy. Highly, highly recommended if you love Christmas and/or #vintagemiddlegradebooks 😍
