…..and it’s a finish! 🥳 This amazing pattern is the #opasamplersal2023 by Paula @oldepatchart and was completed weekly during 2023! I have done a count and have hand stitched 2,198 pieces for the 49 blocks and then with the addition of sashing and cornerstones, the final total is 2,318! The quilting was beautifully done by Cath @cumbrianlongarmer with a gorgeous Grunge Maraschino backing and 100% wool batting. I’ve machine stitched the binding, which is the same fabric as the sashing, and then I’ve hand stitched it all down!

The centre block is named Welcome Home and of course I had to include my dog! It’s bitter sweet that whilst binding this quilt over the past week, we have been desperately searching for a little lost dog; please keep her in your thoughts and help to will her home to her family!

EDIT: Pupperoo has been found! She’s lost some weight but otherwise she’s all good! Everyone human involved has aged decades! I’ll post a proper update once we’re all recovered! 🐶🥳🥰

Another black lab for another baby nephew arriving soon. I do foundation paper piecing rarely enough that there’s a bit of a refreshing curve anytime I start a new FPP project. My seam ripper stays close until I get in the groove. I do love how FPP ends up being so precise and even for complex shapes. This time I remembered to do large basting stitches when joining sections to make sure the edges lined up before doing the 1.8 size stitches for the final seams.

Next up for finishing is this little gem. It was a sewalong with @oldepatchart by t I got a bit behind! Anyway, I’m playing catchup. It’s a really lovely block to piece and I think it should be my early morning stitching for the foreseeable.

Day 9 #igquiltfest2024 - Fabric Storage

Last time I posted about fabric storage for IG Quilt Fest (several years ago) I showed the way I sorted my fabric by color and how I separated & stored fabric by size: yardage, pieces, and scraps. That hasn’t changed.

This time I thought I’d post how I store my ready-to-stitch stamped patchwork pieces. As I stamp fabric for a particular project, I always stamp more than I need and put some away for “play” on another day. These 8” X 14” stackable bins contain my pieces, sorted only by value - light or dark. These are my 1.5” diamonds. ♦️(Can you tell I love shirtings? 😉) My 1.5” triangle pieces 🔺 are stored the same in their own bins. Whenever I feel like playing with a design, need pieces for teaching, or just need to feel a needle and thread in my hand, 🪡🧵 I have some patchwork pieces ready to stitch at a moment’s notice. 😊
I’ve had these bins for years and don’t remember where I got them, but it was probably one of the big box stores. The stackability of these is a space saver; stacked 2 high they fit below my stitching chair. 😊

The quilt under my bins is my Flying Fruit Tingle designed by the incomparable Paula Cochrane @oldepatchart and quilted by Marcia Henry. It is a FREE pattern on Paula’s website. She’s kindly allowed me to produce a stamp set to create this beauty with less prep time. It is currently at the manufacturer and will be available soon. 🤞🏻 I’ll let y’all know. 😉

I had a great time at Sew n sews retreat last weekend. I sewed my little baskets together and added over 30 diamonds to the edges of my star blocks. I was happy while I was on vacation near Tillamook, Oregon a few weeks ago to find the fabric for the diamonds that go between the Starmania blocks. I wasn't completely satisfied wth the pink I had that's stitched to the block on the lower right. I really wanted a small red and white print that reads as pink from a distance. Picture 2 is a closeup of the fabric. I have sewn on all that's cut out, so now to cut out over 200 more. I also need to cut out quite a few more blocks.#starmaniaquiltblock #handpiecing
