mama drum is an homage to the unspoken spoken. the drum, the ancestral means of communication. the first iykyk. Guillermo and Solomon locked in. Wynne added the sauce the first thought that hit me was my time in Cuba with Steve, Afrocuba de Matanzas, meeting Yosvany, Dafnis, Chucho Valdez & Assata. The jazz fest and the folks we ran into partying on the beach and the drinking beer out of cardboard cups during carnival.

an eponymous jont is an alternative version of, not an alternative to. it's black american music, it's black classical music. this is synergy and alignment. it's spontaneous composition. off the top. a 100% improvised album that sounds like it was charted and rehearsed. it features the work of people i admire and had the honor to collaborate with; Wynne Bennett (piano/synths), Guillermo E. Frank Ocean – “Channel Orange” (2012)! 🍊

2025 US Reissue on the Blonded label! The first ever official vinyl pressing of this seminal album of the 2010s. I managed to scoop this up through the actual webstore during the summertime of last year. It took roughly five whole months to ship out and arrive, which seems to be the usual with Frank’s website unfortunately. Still thankful though! 🫶🏻

“IT'S A BAD RELIGION, THIS UNREQUITED LOVE TO ME IS NOTHIN' BUT A ONE-MAN CULT AND CYANIDE IN MY STYROFOAM CUP!” ☦️

I have always had immense respect for Frank Ocean as an artist. He is renowned for breaking through, carving a path, and ultimately triumphing through his signature and uniquely adventurous intimacy with the listener, often sharing and reflecting on his life and mentality, all while maintaining the image he has upheld through turbulent and tragic life events. Last year, I managed to acquire the holy grail for collectors, the OG Black Friday edition of “Blond” (2016) on the XL Recordings label. That album has always had a profound impact on me, as Frank’s artistic passion and humility have always drawn me to his intensely personal and reflective musicianship. However, his debut, the classic “Channel Orange” cemented his place as a unrefutably talented solo artist, creating a legacy worthy of pure praise and adoration, with fans desperately begging at the unlikely possibility of new music. 🤞🏻

This album paints a portrait of a broken soul; a fragmented identity where Frank’s demons and woes take center stage on a giant TV screen where the whole world watches blissfully unaware of his inner turmoil. Through the use of dense, mature, and metaphorical storytelling, he ‘switches channels’ to view key moments of his life and imagines ‘what-ifs,’ as he deals with anecdotes on love lost, the oppressiveness of fame and the touring lifestyle, and the pressure of conforming to idealism and losing himself to the illusionary perfectionism within the industry. Through this, he creates an atmosphere of nostalgia and longing in a directionless state of mind. Frank utilizes neo-soul, hip-hop, and contemporary R&B to convey feelings to listeners. 🧡

For Your Consideration.
once upon a time there was show called the Mod Squad. that was the dress, they were spies and well dressed for the time. when Solomon, Guillermo and Wynne started in on this that's all i could think about. a Bespoke suit, a fresh built boot. haberdashers and custom fits, tailoring, fittings and fitting in. that was the conscious stream.

an eponymous jont is an alternative version of, not an alternative to. it's black american music, it's black classical music. this is synergy and alignment. it's spontaneous composition. off the top. a 100% improvised album that sounds like it was charted and rehearsed. it features the work of people i admire and had the honor to collaborate with; Wynne Bennett (piano/synths), Guillermo E. Brown (drums/vocals), and Solomon Dorsey (bass) recorded live at The Om’Mas Keith Recording Workshop™ by Om'mas, mixed by Jake at The Vault Studios. photo by the inimitable Bill Lee.

For Your Grammy Consideration.

The Lorax is one of my favorite stories. it's up there with Wall-E when we talk about the future of human kind in a post Buy N Large(ing) of the world, our reliance on automatons LLMs, and agents in lock step with how we solo ourselves, lean into apathy, cynicism and the constant urge to consume. Op Ed to the Lorax is positing the question as the Lorax speaks for the trees, who's going to speak for me, when i can't breath?

consider if you're considering. an eponymous jont is an alternative version of, not an alternative to. it's black american music, it's black classical music. this is synergy and alignment. it's spontaneous composition, a 100% improvised album that sounds like it was charted and rehearsed. it features the work of stellar musicians and good people whom i admire and have the honor to have shared space and ideas with; Wynne Bennett (piano/synths), Guillermo E. For Your Grammy Consideration. An Eponymous Jont for Best Alternative Jazz Album.

once upon a time i was an arborist. trees in Van C, humboldt, the bay, asheville, LA proper. found out i was allergic and welp.
EZ Wider is an homage to needing escape, whether through substance or prayer, guided meditations or therapy sessions, when the world has given you too much, how to you make it through? that was the vibe of this piece. we were in separate spaces all i could hear was the music, all they could hear were the words, all of it made up on the spot, in one take.

if you vote for the things, consider if you're considering. an eponymous jont is an alternative version of, not an alternative to. it's black american music, it's black classical music. this is synergy and alignment. it's spontaneous composition. off the top. a 100% improvised album that sounds like it was charted and rehearsed. it features the work of people i admire and had the honor to collaborate with; Wynne Bennett (piano/synths), Guillermo E. Ephemeral Kettle Hollas
what you see is how it happened. Solomon started playing this line and Guillermo started singing in the snare mic. to me is sounded like shout down music, ring shouts, or hollas. prayers muffled by iron to keep the oppressor from knowing. ephemeral because we are outspoken and loud now, hence the title of the song. everything was off the top. unscripted unwritten, yet understood by all. again if you vote for the things, consider if you're considering. an eponymous jont is an alternative version of, not an alternative to. it's black american music, it's black classical music. a 100% improvised album featuring the in tuned minds, spirits, ears and skills of Guillermo E. Brown (drums/vocals), Wynne Bennett (piano/synths) and Solomon Dorsey (bass) recorded live at The Om’Mas Keith Recording Workshop™ by om'mas, mixed by jake at The Vault Studios. we appreciate your vote during this season.
