POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

3.9.26 My friend @william_2002zzz and I played a curious mix of tunes last week - we had a larger amount of really wonderful outsider artists some of which I wanted to showcase in this slideshow🤗

Robbie Basho (pioneering American primitivist guitarist) speaking in a 1983 interview about why he started playing steel string guitar. I played his song ‘Call on the wind’ from his transcendent 1978 album ‘Visions of the Country’

Awesome album cover of Lady June’s very eccentric ‘Linguistic leprosy’ (1974) which I played the song Bars from. Lady June was an avant garde musician/visual artist/poet who emerged out of the early 70s Canterbury scene. Weird fact: Robert Wyatt of Soft machine who became a paraplegic after falling out of a window during a party in his late 20s actually fell out of Lady June’s window…

Album cover of Bobb trimbles (a cult psych folk artist from Massachusetts) 1982 ‘Harvest of Dreams’ which I played the song ‘Premonitions - The Fantasy’ from

@ondiamond’s second album ‘Melon On The Vine’, has been nominated for the @australianmusicprize!

One of the AMP judges commented:
“An absolutely beautiful record that walks the line between elegant pop and challenging avante garde improvisation as gorgeous melodies and restless arrangements rub up against each other, creating a very special type of frisson.”

Congratulations @llllisasallllvo, this was an album a long time in the making and one of our favourite releases and launch shows of 2025!

If you haven’t heard it go grab a copy, a perfect winter warmer and available via @eastmint on @bandcamp or all good local independent record stores.

On Diamond (@ondiamond) continued Season XIX, led by Lisa Salvo (vocals) with Scott McConnachie (guitar, synth), Myka Wallace (drums), Jules Pascoe (bass), and Duré Dara (percussion).

Based in Melbourne/Naarm, the group’s practice draws from alternative pop, folk, and experimental song, shaped by a close-knit ensemble dynamic, balancing structured songwriting with exploratory treatments of texture and arrangement.

Drawing on the expanded palette of their latest release ‘Melon on the Vine’, the set centred voice, rhythm, and atmosphere in careful proportion. Salvo’s vocals carried a quiet warmth, moving between direct melodic lines and expressive nuance, while the collective navigated tone and space with precision, maintaining the ensemble’s cohesive connection throughout.
