The best art moments don’t always happen in the main rooms.

At the end of the upper gallery hallway, this Martin Machado painting creates a natural focal point that draws your eye through the architecture, turning a transitional space into a destination.

Martin is a San Francisco–based artist who also works as a merchant mariner on international container ships and commercial fishing vessels. His experiences at sea deeply inform his work, and his Wake Series captures the movement and patterns left behind by a passing vessel's wake.

And can we talk about this custom walnut frame? I am obsessed! The rounded corners feel like such a natural extension of the movement in the painting. Scroll to see more images.

In collaboration with One West Studio and Eleanor Harwood Gallery.
