EXTREMELY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR QUEEN OF TURNIPS @beththefreerangechef’s COOKBOOK IS NOW LIVE FOR PRE-ORDER 👀🔥❤️

Beth’s beautiful book Retreat Kitchen has been a labour of love and a childhood dream of hers, and if I had a pound for every time someone on retreat asked her to write a cookbook I’d have many many pounds 💰

Beth and the amazing @matt_inwood also slowly and lovingly photographed all the food in the book over a year at Matt’s home, so she could create it all in tune with the seasons 🍂

We met on the very first Wild Times retreat in the woods @campwell.woods, and since then we have… laughed, danced, sang, cried, skinnydipped, swam, told ghost stories around campfires, washed up (A LOT), wandered around Rome, spent hundreds of euros on cheese in Italy because I might have fancied the cheese man, had just a couple of wines, celebrated many many birthdays with Colin the caterpillar cakes, celebrated New Year’s Eves, celebrated Beth’s wedding (literally I was the celebrant) and talked and talked and talked and talked.

It was on our retreat in Italy, retreating back to beautiful Lazio where Beth first started her retreat cheffing career years ago, that she got the call and found out she’d got a book deal. We all cried and celebrated with a Spritz, then jumping in the pool ✨

I always say she’s like a cross between the wholesome earthiness of @hughfearnleywhittingstall with the naughtiness of @nigellalawson, but no one is quite like Beth. Everyone on retreat falls in love with her (I think she puts spells in the food…)

Gorgeous Beth, congratulations. Retreat Kitchen is beautiful and I can feel your love and magic and talent in every recipe and every page. Plus photos from @matt_inwood, illustrations from @buce_multimedia_art, and extra words from @onewomanawake and me!

Please go and pre-order it now (pre-orders really really help ALL authors!) 🙏❤️

Official launch is February 4th, there will be many lovely events celebrating Retreat Kitchen next year including a launch at @toppingsbath on Feb 5th, plus our retreat with Beth at @campwell.farm next July 👀 🌳🫜

RETREAT KITCHEN IS HERE!!!!!

Gosh, even just typing that feels quite something. I’ve spent so long creating this book and have put all my bits and bobs in to it as well as extra sprinkles and a profusion of gubbins.

From my modest self published book I wrote with @matt_inwood in 2017 to a handful of photoshoots we did in between time with a view to something more being on its way, to my proposal, my wonderful agent and a book deal from @eleanor_maxfield @quartobooksuk that I still can’t quite believe I got. To now having pooled a glorious team of creatives with @clairehrochford on book design as well as bringing @buce_multimedia_art illustrations together for this magical front cover.

So now it’s up to you all to pre order, ready for its publication on February 4th 2027. All those who I’ve fed whether on retreat or at a supper club, whether I’ve overshared my love for turnips with you on a train, talked about beans in a festival field or sparked a conversation in a national trust garden over the painful beauty of nature. This book is for you to share, to inspire and to cover in greasy kitchen smears.

There is much more to share with you over the coming weeks including events, competitions and of course, me weeping whilst I unwrap the first hard copy of the book some time next month. So watch this space 😌

It’s publication day for The Almanac 2027!

This is the 10th edition of my almanac, and I am so excited to share it with you. Every year we have a different illustrator, and this year it is the fabulous @daniellebarlowart - I have loved Danielle’s work for many years and knew she would do a wonderful job on this year’s celebratory 10th edition, and so it has proved. Her work is glorious.

We have a couple of our regular contributors back with us: almanac astronomer @hannahbella_nel will be helping us keep track of the sky at night all through the changing seasons of 2027, while our wise woman @onewomanawake has devised a ritual for every new moon of the year. We also welcome @rhiannon.hooson - the first resident almanac poet! who has written us a poem for every month. And finally @mamausedtosay is going to be getting us moving in tune to the energies of the seasons.

Shout out also to @newmanandeastwood for brilliant design and to everyone at @octopus_books_ for all of their hard work getting this little beauty out into the world.

Fly little almanac, fly!

I do hope you love it. Please let me know how you use your almanac, and what you are most looking forward to about this next one.

It’s been a year since I opened the email finding within, my first book offer. Standing in the tiny piazza in Casperia, out for dinner on my night off and surrounded by retreat guests, looking out over the Lazio landscape as the sun slipped through sunset clouds. I’d told all the guests I was waiting for this email. Over sharing is my jam obviously and that could have back fired! @jennyeclark wasn’t sure whether these were happy or sad tears at first, as I’m generally prone to leaky eyes at anything that overwhelms me one way or the other. It was a moment I will always remember. A pure lightness and breath of untainted clarity. Very few times in life does a long standing dream come true. Especially when you have an underlying fear of failure or looking silly so you don’t put your dreams out there much. It has been a long and short year and I never could have imagined all the work that has gone into to creating this book. And I’ve created it with friends which is the best blooming bit! How lucky am I to have such talented and cosmic chums?!
There’s still a bit to do but pre orders will be ready later in the year and the book will be in your hands in time for you to unfurl and shine for spring 2027 🧡

Give me 🧡 if you’re planning to preorder!

A dream of a spring cake for a lovely friend made with a sponge mixed through with primrose milk, filled with orange & bergamot curd and covered in blood orange frosting. I then of course got over excited playing with piping, twisting stars in to nooks and shimmying grooved stripes round slices of dried blood orange. Sprigs of primrose leaf and rosemary added levels to the cake as well as a beautiful whiff. I do love rosemary. Have you ever tried making a syrup with it then adding it to gin? Oh you should…
Finished here and there with white chocolate mendiants pressed with primrose flowers and scattered with dried cornflowers and raspberry, I created a very characterful cake for a very magical woman. Happy birthday @onewomanawake Thank you for your sparkle ✨
I couldn’t choose one picture to share, this lady has so many good angles so I thought I’d share them all!

Cover reveal! For my 9th almanac: The Almanac 2026!
🌳🍃🪺🐿️🪵🦔🍁
This year’s artist is the wondrous @samcannonart - the cover is flecked with gold foil leaves and gold curling ferns and I love it so much.
The theme for my 2026 almanac is ‘the forests and the trees’, and we will spend next year wandering the woodland paths together, with forest folktales and songs - Robin Hood and fairy trees and woodland trysts abound - a woodland skill to master for each month, foraged recipes from @foragefinefoods, the Ogham tree calendar with @onewomanawake, and all your usual moon phases, gardening by the moon, sunrises and sets, tides and more. Look out also for new contributor @hannahbella_nel, who brings us a new revitalised sky at night section, complete with star maps!
You can preorder at the links in my bio or via your local bookshop now, and have it on publication day Thursday 28th August ready to tuck away.
Let me know what you think!
