POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I scrolled my photos as an oracle and said: PHONE! Show me something to muse about! The scroll slowed to this photo of a handmade book from the Frida Kahlo & Friends show a year ago at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The name of the show was actually Frida Kahlo’s Month in Paris: A Friendship with Mary Reynolds. There were 100 pieces in the show. Only 7 of them were Frida’s.

This was THE FIRST TIME EVER that the Art Institute showed Frida’s work. How is that possible?

There were rooms full of Mary Reynold’s book bindings. All of these fantastical ancient-looking books behind plexiglass that looked alive and imprisoned. I wanted to free them all.

I went with my friend, Liz, through happenstance. We decided to let the wind take us and it blew us to my Alma mater. The line was comedically long and I had a small window of time before needing to go to Shankar Vedantam’s Hidden Brain anniversary show.

synchronicity: I was just in Liz’s alumni Circles group last night for her biz: @onleaveexperiences where 7 of us from different cohorts came together to discuss Regret. In the session I spilled the beans about an Italian escapade but when Liz led the convo toward the future—I physically felt my body freeze. It was the life is too short so I’m going to try and write a book or else kind of regret.

It was the living in fear of regret for making a major decision.

Last night I briefly mentioned the value of conversations you have while in lines. I experienced a powerful one in an estate sale line over the weekend. The line for Frida’s show was perfectly timed for a long story I shared with Liz.

Frida Kahlo is one of the most influential women in my life because of her work, health, & marriage. Her show revealed the power that friendship has to influence our creativity.

Check out Liz’s work @onleaveexperiences

And you can find my most recent work on Substack. I’ve got personal essays, synchronicities, creative process work, and health-mindfulness jazz over there.

Not sure what my future IG looks like but I’m still here.
Hope you’ve been well.

This film would not exist without actor and producer Stephanie Stuart (@ms_marilyn_monroe), who devoted years of her life to MDP. She approached Marilyn as a woman who loved, dreamed, and endured, never losing her humanity or her light. Her belief in the project, both in front of & behind the camera, became its emotional center.

Producer and Monroe historian Gary Vitacco-Robles (@gvrovr) spent more than a decade helping shape how Marilyn's story was told. His dedication to preserving Marilyn's true history & his extraordinary insight became part of the film's emotional and historical foundation.

Jason Pelsey's (@jasonpelseymusic) score, Rob Watt's (@robwatt) cinematography, and Addelyn Workman's (@addelyn.workman) portrayal of young Norma Jeane each brought their own voice to the film and helped create the world experienced on screen.

Scott Fortner (@marilynmonroecollection) has been a great friend, collaborator, and steward of Marilyn's legacy. Having pieces from his collection woven into the film, made the evening especially meaningful.

Rick Carl (@rickdcarl) created an unforgettable experience for the audience through the 500 gift bags!

Special thanks to Margaret Barrett (@margaretxbarrett) and Adrian Montes for an unforgettable evening celebrating Marilyn's 100th birthday!

When I first heard Liz Coffey’s story, I knew it was one that would inspire so many. After years of climbing the corporate ladder and achieving success, Liz found herself feeling disconnected from her true self, lost in the pressure to always do more. But instead of letting this burnout define her, she turned it into a powerful opportunity to help other women rediscover their purpose and creativity.

Liz is now the founder of @onleaveexperiences, a company dedicated to helping women step away from the demands of work and life and reconnect with their passions through curated, transformative experiences. Her story is one of self-discovery, courage, and the power of creating space for what truly matters.
