Sometimes a furniture flip isn’t about perfection, it’s about potential. Kim at @ontheflipside.kb saw something in this mismatched little pair that most people would walk right past, and Soft Black did the rest. That contrast between the moody painted body and the warm natural pine top? That’s not a happy accident. That’s an eye for design.🖤

$30 BEDSIDE TABLES. A LITTLE VISION. A VERY DIFFERENT RESULT. 🤎

There’s something particularly satisfying about seeing an inexpensive furniture find transformed this beautifully.

@ontheflipside.kb saw the potential in this $30 pair and gave them a completely new identity — simplifying the bases, introducing warm brass hardware and choosing Fauna in Wise Owl Paint One Hour Enamel.

And Fauna really is the quiet hero here.

An earthy mushroom neutral with warm, soft blush undertones, it has considerably more depth than a conventional cream or beige. Against the softly washed timber bases and aged-brass tones, it feels warm, understated and beautifully considered.

What I especially love is that nothing is fighting for attention.

The colour, proportions, hardware and styling all work together, allowing a very simple pair of bedsides to feel elevated without losing their charm.

A gorgeous example of what thoughtful refinishing can do — beautifully done, @ontheflipside.kb. 🤎

🦉From hard rubbish to a piece worth keeping.

Kim from @ontheflipside.kb spotted this writing desk sitting out for collection and saw what so many furniture refinishers see — potential.

The transformation using Wise Owl One Hour Enamel in Dark Forest is stunning.

Dark Forest is a beautifully grounded, deep earthy green that brings depth and sophistication without the starkness of black. Here, Kim has paired it with exposed natural timber, allowing the warmth and character of the original piece to become part of the finished design rather than covering it completely.

And that contrast is what makes this makeover so good.

The clean painted finish gives the desk a contemporary feel, while the timber and aged-metal hardware retain just enough of its history and character.

This is furniture refinishing at its best — taking something destined to be discarded and showing just how much life was still left in it.

Beautiful work Kim. 🤎

Some finishes are more about revealing than covering.

@ontheflipside.kb used Soft Black as a wash here, allowing the timber itself to remain the focal point while enhancing the natural variation already present in the grain.

Light areas stay light.
Dark areas become richer.
Every knot, line and detail becomes a little more noticeable.

The finished result feels softer and more organic than a painted surface, while still adding depth and visual weight.

A lovely piece by @ontheflipside.kb, showing just how effective a subtle wash can be when the timber is allowed to do the talking.

Warm. Textural. Timeless.

Another use for Furniture Salve! Kim at @ontheflipside.kb used it on the drawers to make them slide like new again! And we bet it smells amazing now.

One of the most overlooked parts of a refinished piece?

How it feels to open the drawers.

The smooth glide of restored timber runners.
The soft warmth of conditioned wood beneath your fingertips.
That rich Teakwood & Amber scent lingering quietly inside the piece 🤎

Suddenly the furniture doesn’t just look beautiful again.

It feels beautiful to live with.

And honestly, those little sensory details are usually the ones people remember longest.

Most people think paint either covers timber… or ruins it.

But this is where paint washes completely change the conversation.

Kim from @ontheflipside.kb used Wise Owl Paint, One Hour Enamel in Soft Black as a paint wash on this dresser, creating a finish that still feels and looks like timber — just deeper, moodier and far more elevated than the original orange tone.

You can still see the grain.
You can still feel the age of the piece.
But the entire mood has shifted.

And finishing it with Wise Owl Paint, OHE Clear Topcoat in Satin was the perfect choice here. It protected the finish while keeping that soft richness in the timber instead of making it feel heavy or overly glossy.

Then there are the finishing details that separate a quick flip from a beautifully refined piece — Wise Owl Paint Furniture Salve used inside the drawers and runners to freshen everything up and make the whole dresser feel cared for from the inside out….and smelling divine.

This is such a good example of how versatile the Wise Owl Paint system can be beyond traditional painted finishes.

We never predicted Soft Black can do this… Soft Black in a paint wash application gives that deep, chocolatey finish that’s hard to get any other way, and Kim at @ontheflipside.kb nailed the technique. Sand through 120, 180, 240, apply the wash, seal with Satin Topcoat, and you’ve got this. Stunning results! 🖤

A little set of mismatched bedside tables 🤍

Not perfectly matched — but they don’t need to be.

When the colour, timber and hardware all settle into each other,
the piece stops feeling pieced together and starts to feel resolved.

That’s usually the difference.

This one from @ontheflipside.kb lands there —
nothing pushed, nothing competing, just well judged decisions.

It’s not just the colour —
it’s the consistency behind it that lets the finish sit this clean.

And that’s something this community understands…
taking the time to get it right, not just done.
