Meet the Hosts! ✨For this week’s Spotlight Sunday, I wanted to take a moment to properly introduce myself and my co-host and creative partner, Skyla Rayne. I started this open mic one year ago after moving from San Francisco to Napa, hoping to recreate the inspiring energy of the open mics I loved attending in the city. I’ve always been deeply passionate about the arts and creative expression. I began piano lessons and joined choir at 5 years old and those early experiences became the foundation for my love of music and self-expression. In 8th grade, an English class introduced me to poetry and writing, which further ignited my passion for the arts. Beyond creativity, I’m also deeply passionate about building community. In today’s world, I believe it’s more important than ever to stay connected with the people around us. It was at Barnhouse that I first met Skyla Rayne, a truly talented singer with an undeniable passion for music and community. Our collaboration happened naturally because I saw the same fire in her that I felt for this open mic. In the early days, when turnout was low and things felt discouraging, Skyla was always there encouraging me and bringing positivity. We quickly became a team, and together we continue to grow this open mic. (Fun fact: Skyla is also an English teacher!!) What began as a monthly event at Barnhouse quickly became weekly due to the incredible response. Today, it has grown into a vibrant community where locals and artists come together to share their work, perform, and connect. It’s become a beautiful outlet for creative expression, performance, and entertainment. We’re so grateful to everyone who has shown up, performed, and supported us along the way.
