🌌 The Cave Nebula (Sh2-155 / Caldwell 9) in Cepheus About 2,400 light-years away, a single hot star, HD 217086, is lighting up the edge of a dark cloud of gas and dust called Cepheus B. The glowing rim and the dark dust beside it look like the mouth of a cave, which is where the name comes from. The same starlight is squeezing the cloud and setting off the birth of new stars inside it. 👀 Swipe for the map: in the bottom-right corner hides vdB 155, a tiny reflection nebula around the newborn star IL Cephei. 📸 16h 10m total from Hong Kong skies (Bortle 7) 🔭 Askar 103 APO + 1.0x flattener @sharpstaroptics 📷 ZWO ASI 2600MC Pro 🎯 Sky-Watcher HEQ5 Pro 🔴 Askar D1 (Hα/OIII): 88 × 600s ⚪ Optolong L-Pro: 30 × 180s 💻 ASIAIR · PixInsight · Photoshop Full story on our website 🔗 link in bio #astrophotography #deepspace #astronomy #nebula

L’objet a récemment évolué de « New candidate » à « Possible PN ». #Astrophotography #Astronomy #DeepSky #PlanetaryNebula #youresa @europeanspaceagency

Sh2-157, commonly known as the Lobster Claw Nebula, is a large emission nebula located in the constellation Cassiopeia, near the border with Cepheus. It lies approximately 8,000 - 11,000 light-years from Earth, within the Perseus Arm of our Milky Way galaxy, and spans roughly 150 - 200 light-years across. This massive cloud of ionized hydrogen is shaped by intense ultraviolet radiation and powerful stellar winds from young, massive stars. One particularly interesting object within the region is WR 157, a Wolf-Rayet star, an evolved massive star losing material through extremely powerful stellar winds. The region contains both ionized gas and dark dust clouds, creating the intricate filaments and structures visible in narrowband images. About a year ago, when I was still fairly new to astrophotography, I captured a wide-field image of this region (image in the comments). I was amazed by how many interesting targets were packed into a single frame and decided that someday I'd return to photograph them individually. A year later, with a little more experience and a bigger scope, I'm finally getting around to that plan. The Lobster Claw is one of the first, and there are more to come!
