After 151 years of serving generations of Norfolk families, the William A. Hunton YMCA is coming home.

We celebrated the groundbreaking of the Hunton Y’s new campus at Tidewater Dr. and Brambleton Ave., returning this historic institution to the St. Paul’s community and marking an exciting new chapter in its legacy.

Shaped through extensive community input, the new Hunton Y will expand early childhood education for over 300 children and their working families and restore programs for seniors, adults, and teens, all while creating a welcoming place for connection, recreation, and community.

We’re honored to help bring this long-awaited vision to life alongside the Hunton Y, its neighbors, and our project partners.

Nothing says summer like good food, sunshine, and great company on the rooftop.☀️🍔

We had an amazing time kicking off the summer season — Chef David Hannah @theneighborhoodpopup on the grill, @joysicles757 keeping us cool, and the whole Assembly crew soaking up a beautiful day. Plus vibes by @mikemilbourn_ and @laprimaverastrings and a warm welcome to our newest Changemakers in Residence!

Thanks to everyone who joined us! More summer nights like this, please.

Designed for @cpschoolsva , Crestwood reflects what we believe strong learning environments should do:
➔ support active discovery
➔ create belonging
➔ help students begin to see pathways toward purpose.

Spaces like this matter because they shape how students learn, explore, connect, and imagine what is possible for their future.

Recognition like this is never the result of one firm alone. Thank you to the full project team who helped bring this school to life:

Yorkie’s Modern Deli and Altruistic are proud to be recognized with the Excellence in Development Design Award for Best Restaurant/Eatery/Bar.

It’s been amazing to see an idea that started as a collection of notes come to life in such a meaningful way. What began as a vision has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of!

A huge thank you to @toddalanbreland @altruistic.design @kristinpaigeva @alynne_lamontagne and @orbis_la for believing in the vision, putting in the work, and helping make it all happen. We are beyond grateful for your partnership and dedication. @altruistic.design you ready for round 2?!!!!

Let’s continue to grow, continue to support our community, and continue striving to be an essential part of the 757.

Weeks ago, a curated group of creative practitioners were given the same design prompt. During this breakout session on June 13, they’ll present their responses, revealing how different creative approaches can shape the way we solve problems. The result is a live demonstration of how discipline shapes thinking—and how the same question can lead to entirely different answers. 💭

Facilitated by Ryan Fremeau of @wpa_design, the session features:

💡Nathan Lahy, @orbis_la

💡Derek Eley, @vawesleyan

💡Jared Beck, Freelance Graphic Designer & Art Director

💡Casey Petrice, @creativeworklab

💡Beau Turner, @757makerspace

Ticket sales for the Virginia MOCA Art + Design Convening close Friday, June 12 at noon. Hurry to save your seat now! Link in bio. 🔗

Maury High School students showed up to our Final Finishes / Interiors meeting last Thursday as empowered young designers, fully engaged and energized to contribute to the future planning of their new school.

They tested out Heartland’s full-size classroom mock-up, to include interior elements like furniture, finishes, and flooring. The students provided valuable feedback to the project team as we approach next steps!

Last Friday marked a meaningful milestone for the William A. Hunton YMCA, with the official deed signing for its future home in St. Paul’s.

Building on a 150-year legacy of service, the new 32,000 SF facility will expand Hunton’s role as a safe haven and community resource, creating more space for early childhood education, civic gathering, and programs that support health, wellness, and life skills for all ages.
