Last night 165 members of the Abergavenny community, gathered in the Victorian market hall. The event was called One Big Table, an event put on by a bunch of local folk who all volunteered their time, skills and love to the community. It was indeed, one Big Table!

There was live music, bar with local artisan drinks, arts and crafts at the table, families, friends and food! So much of the incredible ingredients and props were donated by local businesses. It was an absolute pleasure to feed the community in this way. The air miles on the menu was virtually nill, the local produce so good, that I wanted to let it shine without overcomplicating it.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing people round a table together, sharing food, pouring drinks and laughing. Community, family, friends, strangers ❤️ Kids running around, elderly doing crafts, strangers passing plates. That’s what it’s all about.

I didn’t get a chance to get any pictures of the food on the night, but I cooked the same menu at home so we could enjoy it as a family.

Placemat shows the businesses that contributed in some way, but doesn’t show the long list of amazing volunteers who worked so hard, meetings, planning, WhatsApp groups and phone calls. It could not have happened without the immense efforts of all the volunteers and donations from local businesses.

Love this town and love what community can do ❤️

First batch. DONE.

We've learned a lot. Sometimes it's been boring. Sometimes it's been fun. Mostly fun. Especially when we've had friends come to help...

Thanks to everyone who's been a part of this!

Now, we wait...

I had the great privilege of collaborating with poet @lilyredwoodpoet earlier this year, on her fledgling book of poetry...
If you are interested in the concept of mothering, know a mother, are a mother; then I urge you to get her book. It's raw and honest and beautiful and messy, and perfectly captures what it is to be a mother... Lily compares mothers to swifts, who "sleep and fly with one eye open, and sometimes both eyes shut"...
Not only are these poems themselves each important in their content... with this book, Lily shouts from the rooftops that our creativity does not die when we become mothers, that in fact it can thrive even more, after we have metamorphosed.

lily is a force. I'm honoured to have worked on this with her, and honoured to have her as a friend.

Link in my stories to get the book 🐦

Feeling the warmth of community and friendship this weekend at Bryn Cynefin.

The Welsh word, Cynefin has no dirdect translation into english. Although it can be translated to “habitat” , “cynefin” is not just the area in which we live; It is often used to describe the relationship between people and the natural world, and how our connection to our surroundings can shape our sense of identity and well-being. It's about belonging.

Cynefin is also used in the broader sense of community, culture, heritage and identity. It is a holistic concept that encompasses the physical, social, cultural, spiritual and economic dimensions of a place, and how these dimensions interact with each other. It is seen as the historic, cultural and social space which is shaped and defined by the community that inhabits it.

💚 As we tend our relationships we move towards a true sense of cynefin. It starts here...

Joyful sights. Grown and gifted by friends or bought from and grown by my corner shop 😌

Yellow submarine tomatoes (my favourite veggie name!) baked into oily, salty focaccia, smashed entirely by two on a camping weekend #breadislove
