LA to West Texas with the homies. Amazing trip as always.

Eastern Black-tailed rattlesnake (Crotalus ornatus) from New Mexico.

One of six broad-banded copperheads (Agkistrodon laticinctus) we found. One of my biggest targets for this trip and one of the best looking vipers out there in my opinion.

Sonoran coral snake (Micrurus euryxanthus)

Mottled rock rattlesnake (Crotalus lepidus lepidus)

Another lepidus lepidus found while border patrol was observing us with their thermal imaging drone 👀

A mojave rattlesnake (Crotalus scutulatus), angry, as always. Also two humans.

Trans-Pecos Yopper 🐍 the first snake found on a banger of a West Texas trip! After grinding since the sun went down, shining cuts for snakes without any success, I was starting to lose hope that snakes existed here at all. Morale was low when all of the sudden this beautiful broad banded copperhead manifested right after midnight in the backyard of our Airbnb. 🤯 The second slide is an in-situ, I managed to snap 1 shot before he slipped deep into an endless pile of rocks, sadly before half the group could even see it. This snake sparked some excitement for the crew and we tried for longer with little success, right before calling it quits for the night we checked the same spot and bam, this puppy was back out… and this time the whole group was able to see and get in there for some photos. First of about 40+ snakes seen over 3 nights in West Texas 🤠✅

Here are some Klaubs we found in Arizona’s Sky Islands last summer. I wanna say @lancehakker and @orcuttiputty spotted these particular lil guys? The greens in the first snake were even more vibrant in real life. I did my best to not tweak these colors beyond how they looked naturally. One of the last spots we were able to visit on the AZ trip! Coryphantha Recurvata! I had been studying areas to go and search these beauties down, I had narrowed down about 3 different locations but our trip was coming to an end quick! With limited time I reached out to Preston @orcuttiputty for some input and guidance in the right direction. He was gracious enough to shed some light on an area he had been before, which confirmed my research correct! It was one of the places on my lists. We flew south down the 19fwy to get there before dark we were hunting and hunting and just as golden hour began we spotted our first specimen! We hiked the canyons spotting several more. I was impressed at how large these plants get, forming HUGE clumps! Their spines catch the sunlight and glow a beautiful golden yellow. Like a lot of people, I’ve been trying for years for a green rat snake. Working off little sleep and very early mornings, with zero success.

Then my Mom invited me accompany her on her road trip to Arizona to see a friend, and I got after it. Not only did I find my first rat snake, I found 2 more with @orcuttiputty the next day to make 3 in 24 hours.

I was actually very frazzled for the first one, I’d skidded to a stop which freaked the snake out and it got a couple bites on me(I obviously don’t blame the snake). It was striking my entire time with it. And I had a car come up right away so I shooed it off the road. That experience made finding another a necessity. And we get em! So stoked.

Last repost of stuff from spring (i swear 🗣️), but had to post more for an epic day and species in specific. I tend to believe the presence of a bright moon in the night sky is detrimental towards finding snakes crossing roads at night, but this night obviously situationally voided that belief (I think primarily due to unexpected rain / high humidity the same day 🤓).

Organ pipe cactuses are quickly becoming one of my favorites, alongside ocotillo they make me feel like I'm under the sea in a SpongeBob episode instead of an arid desert, strangely tentacle like plants 🐙
