No GMO label? That doesn't necessarily mean your food wasn't genetically engineered.

Under current U.S. disclosure rules, entire categories of genetically engineered foods and ingredients can reach consumers without a bioengineered label.

Certain gene-edited foods may avoid disclosure. Refined ingredients from engineered crops can currently escape labeling when modified genetic material is undetectable. Even inadvertent amounts of bioengineered ingredients can fall within exemptions.

The result? Shoppers may have far less information about how their food was produced than they realize.

Consumers deserve transparency and the ability to make informed choices about what they eat.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Your Congresspeople to Vote NO on the 2026 Farm Bill - Don’t Deregulate Pesticides & GMOs!

The 2026 Farm Bill currently working its way through Congress would severely restrict the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to regulate pesticides. It completely guts the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the law that governs how the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates pesticides, with sweeping exemptions to FIFRA and huge changes to EPA reviews, making the EPA’s pesticide authority weak to non-existent.

Farm Bill section 10201 gives the EPA Administrator the power to waive regulation or review for any pesticide whatsoever.

Farmers, fishers, Tribal nations, food entrepreneurs, and local organizations are coming together to build a more connected North Shore food system rooted in ecological stewardship, local ownership, and community resilience.

This week, our team and fundholders stepped into the ecosystem through stories, perspectives, and shared conversation. They learned about the connections between climate resilience, conservation, Tribal self-determination, and rural vitality—and what’s possible when land, water, and community unite.
