Rafael Tufiño Printmaking Workshop at Taller Boricua will activate the Creativity Lab at MOMA with installations and programming from August 6 through September 30, 2024. Taller Boricua has been an advocate for East Harlem artists and residents since it was founded in 1969. Its current leadership includes original founders and artists Marcos Dimas @marcosdimasart , executive director of Taller Boricua @tallerboricua , and Nitza Tufino @nitzatufino master printer and director of the Rafael Tufino Printmaking Workshop. The project in the Creativity Lab is organized by Nitza Tufino with the participation of member artists Ada Pilar Cruz, Betty Cole, Eliezer Berrios, and James Cuebas. Taller Boricua has been instrumental to East Harlem’s “El Barrio” community’s long-standing cultural and social well-being. Taller Boricua’s mission is “to establish a cultural and educational center for the Puerto Rican community in New York City and enhance the aesthetic, cultural, historical, political, and economic experience of Puerto Ricans in New York.” Its historic-artistic engagement with the Young Lords Party, which was once headquartered on the same city block, infused the inspiration that gave rise to the political, cultural, and poetic Nuyorican movement.

The Rafael Tufiño Printmaking Workshop is a printmaking organization that provides access to equipment, supplies and training by master printmakers. @themuseumofmodernart #moma @rafaeltufinoprintmakers #elevatingelbarrio

One of the most influential Boricuas in my lifetime has transitioned today. Hiram Maristany #hirammaristany photography is the Essence of El Barrio culture in its purest form. I only knew Hiram for a short time but it felt like I've known him a life time. To converse with Hiram seemed like sitting quietly in a library learning from his experience and wisdom. It was like a dream that we were able to know him but now he lives with us forever through his photos and his legacy. I appreciate the advice he gave me which inspires me to live by his example. You will trully be missed my friend. Tengo Puerto Rico En MI Corazon! #eastharlem #elbarrio #new york #younglords #puertorico #boricua #elevatingelbarrio

Thank you @bkstreetart for spreading the word.

https://www.brooklynstreetart.com/2020/08/20/oliver-rios-give-a-damn-vote/

@giveadamn_vote ADVOCATES VOTING AND CIVICS THROUGH ARTIST INSPIRED CLOTHING AND PRODUCTS.

We believe voting is the best way to get the future you want. Voting is the best way to speak for yourself and to be heard. Voting is your right and duty as a citizen.
We don’t believe government is the problem. We the people are the problem. We are the problem when we don’t vote. We are the problem when we aren’t informed by facts. We are the problem when we don’t care. Not to vote, not to be informed by facts, not to care, is to cede one's power to others. And they will manipulate you with misinformation. They will enslave you with their unjust rules and laws. They will subject you to dishonest leaders and bad policies.

If one wants to be in control of one's own destiny; if one wants to be free; one must care, get informed, and vote. Unfortunately, none of this will guarantee better days ahead, but at least one will have a fighting chance. Not to vote is to guarantee helplessness. Think of voting as one's personal non-violent revolution.

Get involved.
Get informed.
Give a damn. Vote.
