POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

To reiterate, this is NOT about all and I am so very grateful for the professionals who have helped me 📣
(Also inspired by the incredible @finding_fi_ post!!)

Unfortunately, my experience is not unique and the system (although many improvements have been made) shout not be letting down neurodivergent individuals.

I made this post, not to put down anyone, but for awareness as I hope to use my experience to improve care for future patients🫂

Reflecting on the past 3 years 🤍

July 2023: I was in the depths of an eating disorder & severe OCD. I was so unwell that I was placed on end-of-life care, as the NHS had no further treatment options for me.

Thankfully, I was given the chance to receive life-saving treatment @orri_uk . Choosing recovery was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it gave me my life back ♥️

July 2026: I’m in the south of France with my boyfriend of 18 months, I’ve built a life I never thought I’d have, we’re hoping to buy our first home in the next few weeks, and I’ve finally launched the business I’d dreamed about for years.

If you’re struggling right now, please don’t lose hope. The life you can’t imagine today could become your reality. Recovery is possible 🤍

I’ll be forever grateful that I met Ry while I was recovering from anorexia. He has healed parts of me that I never even realised needed healing ❤️‍🩹

Three years ago, I never could have imagined I’d be in the South of France, eating a chocolate-filled crêpe at a night market. Three years ago this month, I was on an end-of-life care pathway because of my eating disorder.

Thanks to the incredible team @orri_uk , my life was saved. I’m so grateful to be alive, to experience moments like these and to share them with my favourite people ♥️

The reality of not recovering is miserable.

I’d rather be with my sister, not on FaceTime.
Drink a good coffee, not coffee that tastes like 💩.
Be in my safe place, not a space that feels the furthest thing from safe.
Cuddle my cat, not hope he recognises my voice on FaceTime.
Sit on a beach watching the sunset, not sit in a courtyard.
Play games in a cafe, not alone in the floor.
Laugh and feel joy, not spend most of my days crying.

I want my life to look like ‘that’ not ‘this’, and the only way to make that happen is recovery ❤️‍🩹

; can we 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 stop normalising emaciation? can we 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 stop weaponising body shaming as a way to deter people from talking about the way that actors and singers are fading away in front of our eyes, their malnourished frames shrinking as we witness them slowly dying - a harrowing throwback to the 90s; of heroin chic, the idolisation of Kate Moss and Cassie from Skins; an era of romanticising starvation.

there is no denying that bmi is not a viable method of determining an individual’s physical or mental health; that we can’t determine whether an individual is healthy simply by looking at them; that everyone's body is different with its own natural set point weight and that, generally speaking, we should not be commenting on the weight/shape/size/appearance of others - 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴.

yet this well-intentioned phrase is being used to shy away from discussing disordered eating and harmful weight loss methods, to attack those who raise concerns over celebs at dangerously low weights, to discourage people from talking about the alarming way that emaciation is once again being glamourised and how it perpetuates the damaging message that worth is determined by weight; by diminishment; by negative space. it is little wonder that eating disorders are so dramatically on the rise when the media is plastered with photos of emaciated bodies and with our social media feeds flooded with pictures reminiscent of tumblr thinspo, these images are inescapable.

to criticise, insult or speak negatively about a person’s body or appearance is vile, but those who speak out in genuine alarm about the celebrities whose bodies are more skeleton than flesh raise valid concerns that shouldn’t be dismissed. it is not the specific methods being used to lose such drastic amounts of weight – although the ozempic craze a lot to answer for – it is the basic fact that an individual who is so visibly emaciated that their entire ribcage is visible through their chest is not healthy, regardless of the cause.

Some things I’ve discovered that help me through recovery that I wish I knew sooner ✨

I know I’m an ‘all or nothing’ and ‘perfectionist’ thinker, and that’s been a barrier for me within my journey. However, experience allows us to gain wisdom and that’s allowed me to approach recovery differently. Personally, too much pressure, comparison and a lack of self compassion have never helped. It doesn’t mean I am now too laid back in my approach, more that I’m learning to work with myself instead of against.

Lots more to learn for sure, but that’s when I will problem solve and continue through this journey 💚

not knowing what there will be, if there’s anything you like, or the overwhelming amount of options can send our brains into an… AHHH🤯 this can be where the ED tries to take over so it’s important that we manage this, here’s my tips!

1. Backup plan- have something in mind prior to getting there that you can have (the kids section pretty much always have pasta/bolognaise/chips/chicken nuggets/fish fingers), which stops the ED making a decision.

2. Break it down- think about the meal having a carb, protein, and veg. Focus on one component at a time instead of thinking about it as a whole.

3. Reduce the choice- pick 1 to 3 options you are interested in for either your meal as a whole or for each component. This way there is not an overwhelming selection and making decisions can be easier.

4. Take your time- there’s no rush, slowing down makes it easier to process your thoughts and reduce panic.

5. Remove pressure- worried about picking something and not liking it? You’re not stuck with it and can just get something else! You can always try a little bit to decide if you like it or not before putting it on your plate. Also remember that you don’t have to try everything all in one, the foods will be on offer multiple times throughout your holiday so there will be plenty of opportunity.

Remember, this is YOUR holiday and NOT the EDs!! 🌞

Unlearning numbers are hard when it’s become habit for your brain to become a calculator 🔢
It takes time and commitment, BUT, it isn’t impossible to see food as just food again!
Here’s some tools I use that may also help you! 🍽️

On Monday, we were invited to Parliament for the Eating Disorders APPG roundtable on education - bringing together clinicians, policymakers, educators, charities, and those with lived experience to explore the current landscape.

It was a privilege to be in that room and to share in and learn from the experiences, expertise, and courage of others. A passionate discussion, the nature of which only demonstrated the scope and scale of the challenge at hand.

We were grateful to contribute to the conversation around physical education - where relationships with bodies, food, and movement are shaped, often in full view of others. A space that can be incredibly complex, particularly during puberty, where vulnerability is heightened and teachers and peers play a significant role in modelling attitudes and language - impacting how these are understood and carried forward for life.

PE can reinforce comparison, exclusion, and shame - or create connection, emphasise the joy of movement, and celebrate the human body. It can be something inclusive, varied, and not defined by performance or appearance.

A key takeaway - it’s essential that marginalised voices are afforded not just space, but respect. That diversity of lived experience permeates the fabric of this work - embedded in the infrastructure of change and policy. Not just creating the opportunity for people to speak their truths, but fostering the safety for those truths to be received and translated into action.

Incredibly thankful to @dump_the_scales for the work they continue to do, and to be part of a collective commitment to making better a reality.

This afternoon, the APPG and Dump the Scales hosted a roundtable in the Houses of Parliament on Eating Disorders and Education.

The room was filled with passion, openness, honesty, and a wide range of experiences and perspectives. We want to take a moment to thank every single person who joined us and shared their voice today.

Moments like this highlight not only the importance of these conversations, but the responsibility we all share to ensure they are inclusive, respectful, and feel safe for everyone contributing. A broader range of experiences makes a huge impact in creating change that is felt by all.

We know that for too many people, particularly those from marginalised communities, experiences are too often overlooked or not fully heard. The conversations and experiences heard today reinforced why representation is not optional, it is essential, and something we care deeply about as a campaign.

When all voices are heard and valued, we not only raise awareness, but move closer to truly inclusive treatment and support and ultimately, better outcomes.

We remain committed to creating and protecting spaces where everyone feels able to speak openly and be listened to, and to continuing the work needed to make that a reality. So we thank every single person who has either today, or in the past shared their experience with us, and trusted us to hold the space for your stories, we do not take this lightly.

To everyone who contributed today, thank you. We hear you, and we will ensure your voices and experiences are reflected in our upcoming report.

We also recognise that conversations like these can bring up difficult topics and emotions, and that time constraints don’t always allow for everything to be shared - we want to ensure there are spaces for you outside of these forums that allow for more time. We are in your corner.

THINGS I WISH I KNEW SOONER 🤍 (Day 6 of 7)

Recovery hasn’t been a straight line for me - it’s been more like a rollercoaster 🎢

There were times I felt strong and hopeful … and also times I doubted everything … there were times when I felt completely in control … and times when life hit so hard and old coping urges got louder again

That doesn’t mean my recovery stopped, it was just taking a slightly longer way round - a tough day can’t erase all of the progress you’ve made 🖤

My DMs are always open, but I’d also gladly recommend the wonderful experts at @beatedsupport @orri_uk @mindcharity 🙇🏻‍♀️

This is a topic that’s close to my heart so I hope you enjoy our conversation. We get into biohacking, hormones, fasting, orthorexia, weight loss drugs and how to support teenagers better.

TW: we discuss disordered eating, GLP-1 noise, ED recovery and similar topics which some people may find hard to watch. Please look after yourself and engage mindfully.
