Performance has one of the most potent abilities to make us feel, whether it’s to laugh or to cry. @ma_ma_lia’s WITH OURSELVES, WITH EACH OTHER opening tomorrow night @kstheater is a prime example of that. Set in a “karaoke funeral lounge,” the performance explores karaoke as a vehicle for expressing inexpressible grief.

“I love karaoke as a shared ritual of permission. It has offered me a meaningful, low-stakes way into using my voice while inviting emotional and tonal range. Regardless of how we sound, we can root for one another, sing with feeling, and make space for vulnerability. You don’t have to be a great singer to be moved by a song or move someone else. WOWEO draws on karaoke’s unapologetic spectacle, the ceremonial weight of funerals, and the intimacy of a neighborhood lounge. Unfolding like a live mixtape of confession and catharsis, the work explores how a solo body can become a gathering place and the mic a lifeline. It invites audiences to sing along, witness humor beside hurt, and inhabit their own multitudes.

I am not a trained or “good” singer. With Hatch’s support, I’ve been fortunate to work with vocal coaches and artists Jisook Kim, Kara Staiger, Micaela Tobin, and Lisa Velton Smith. Their patience and generosity have helped me become less afraid of my voice and even enjoy moments of its texture and sound.”

So grateful ✨

• Repost @nefa_1976

With National Dance Project support, these 30 projects (post 2/2) will tour. Congratulations to all of the recipients and the finalists!

NDP Advisors selected these projects from a competitive pool of 280 applicants from 34 states, as well as Washington, D.C. and Guam.
Throughout the entire process, NDP Advisors remained grounded in the program criteria while uplifting representation across traditional and new dance forms and aesthetics, rigorous study/research, earnest storytelling, and commitments to community mobilization. It is because of their diligent work and care that we have a diverse cohort of grantees and finalists that reflect and strengthen the cultural and aesthetic diversities of today’s dance field.

Before heading home from Wisconsin, I made one special stop in Racine to visit Autumn Latimore and her beautiful new shop. ❤️

With her first anniversary right around the corner, I wanted to stop in, see the space for myself, and show a little Pittsburgh love and support. And what a wonderful space she’s created!

And then, while looking around, I spotted something familiar… Otto Finn! 😊 A little piece of Pittsburgh right there in Racine.

It was so good to spend some time with Autumn, explore her shop, talk fabric and quilting, and celebrate another creative entrepreneur building something of her own.

Cheers to your first anniversary in November, Autumn—and many more to come! ❤️

KST just dropped our Fall 2026 Season!! 💐

This fall, KST welcomes a powerful cohort of AAPI artists, led by the world premiere of @ma_ma-lia Maree ReMalia’s 🎤 WITH OURSELVES, WITH EACH OTHER (WOWEO), co-directed by Adil Mansoor @adilman and created and produced with Hatch Arts Collective @hatch.arts.collective. The work explores grief, memory, joy, and the complexities of adoption.

Alongside WOWEO, Remind Me, My Dream brings together visual artists exploring layered identities and stories. Curated by Sara Tang in partnership with JADED @jadedpgh, Pittsburgh’s first AAPI artist collective.
