Happy Saturday morning our low is 7, I believe we’ve broken the frigid minus temps. Today is the last day of January our days will now begin to gain minutes of daylight. We that said can’t wait for spring to sit out on my porch. My weathervane is a Steve Hazlett piece that I purchased several years ago. I saw that @our_primitive_home posted a pic earlier today to include a stunning red rooster Steve Hazlett piece she had made by Steve Hazlett. Thanks for posting Kimberly!

Ever heard of a “kitchen in a cupboard”? Meet the Hoosier Cabinet: a marvel of American ingenuity that redefined kitchen design at the turn of the 20th century.

First crafted by the Hoosier Manufacturing Co. of New Castle, Indiana (hence its name!), it was designed to bring order and efficiency to the chaos of early kitchens. Long before built-ins were standard, these freestanding workstations offered everything needed in one spot: flour sifters, sugar bins, spice carousels, and pull-out enamel worktops. They were ergonomically designed, with storage systems mapped to reduce steps and speed up meal prep, a concept inspired by the era’s growing fascination with scientific management and household efficiency.

Other Indiana-based companies like Sellers, McDougall, Napanee, and Boone joined the movement, helping sell millions of Hoosier-style cabinets across America by the 1920s. Nicknamed the “silent servant,” the cabinet was heavily marketed to women, offering a more modern, time-saving kitchen at a time when many still cooked over open flame.

By the 1930s, built-in cabinetry and modern refrigeration started edging them out of everyday use. Today however, original Hoosier Cabinets are prized collectibles, examples of domestic design straight from the heartland.

Today’s LH Discovery 💡
The Hoosier Manufacturing Co. was so invested in promoting kitchen efficiency that they published full-length cookbooks with every cabinet, complete with meal planning tips and charts for organizing your shelves. These became early 20th-century bestsellers in their own right!

Wall sconces have been used to bring light and warmth to homes for years. This one is certainly unique and an antique. It is forged out of iron, and the bottom portion, which holds the candle moves. The primitive candle holder is available to add warmth to any room, at Voila Vintage in Gums mall of antiques and collectibles. #PrimitiveDecor #WallSconce #CandleHolder #HandForgedIron #ironcandleholderstand #ironcandleholderwall #colonialhomedecor #colonialhomestyle #GrandCore #GrannyCore #GrannyCoreDecor #CandleLover #IronLover #CountryHome #KitchenDecor #MidCentury #midcenturystyle #fireplacedecore #GumMallOfAntiquesAndCollectibles

Welcome to #holidaydecorideas 🎄 ~ we’re in our 3rd year of offering decorating tips, craft ideas & recipes! 🥰 Join us through the end of the year and Follow #holidaydecorideas🎄 to refer back to all our posts! Below is a list of amazing ladies that will also be bringing you Christmas content. 🤩💚🎅🏻 If you don’t already know them, please show some love and Like & Follow their accounts…you won’t be disappointed! 😍 To kick off the season, I’d like to offer my thought process each year as the holidays approach ~ I always look at my calendar first to see when I can start decorating and how much time I can allot to it! This might seem like an odd beginning but knowing my schedule and working around it can keep the season stress-free!! ☺️ Ideally, I like to start the first of November and go all out, but some years are just busier than others so I usually start with adding my artificial cedar first (or winter greens as I call it!) because I keep that out until mid February. I then add some pops of red specifically for Christmastime. I also like to mix in natural elements from the outdoors as well as turkey feathers and fruit/nuts. ☃️ Just remember, there is no right or wrong time to start or how to decorate…you just “do you!” 😉 In these photos, I’m sharing a glimpse into our Primary Bedroom…this is an antique handmade cabinet ~ it crosses a couple time periods and is a bit rough but that’s what drew me to it!! 😍 So without further ado, we bring you styles of Antique Farmhouse, Primitive, Colonial, Folkart and Traditional…a little something for everyone!!! 🙌🏻👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻🫶🏻 We hope you have a blessed holiday season! 🕊️🌿🙏🏻❤️
