“A good third space gives a person permission to become more than the reason they entered.”
— @lepakconversations

I had a lot of fun over this weekend learning and unlearning with community practitioners Common Ground, Lepak Conversations and the fiery folk behind the Weaving Futures Unconference at GUI @bewithmich @coach_aifa_ahmad 🔥

Lots of goodness to revisit and mull over and if there’s one thing I really wanted to share from this weekend, it’d be this:

I don’t need to discover the answers on my own. Navigating the tectonic shifts of this decade (A.I., the floundering economy, eco-climate breakdown) can be a journey of communal wayfinding as much as a journey of personal wayfinding. I am not alone.

I’ve realised that I am not the only one asking the questions that I’ve been asking. In fact, there are likely many others who are asking the same questions I am asking, and are discovering answers of their own.

Thank you,
@ourcommongroundsg

for being fellow companions on my journey to a safe, peaceful and liveable planet… 🐝 xJul

[ Giveaway closed ] ✨ TICKET GIVEAWAY✨

What if becoming a more intentional parent is not about trying harder, but about understanding ourselves a little better?

As parents and caregivers, we carry so many expectations of how we should show up for our children — to be patient, respectful, mindful and emotionally available.

But our own experiences, upbringing and beliefs often shape the way we respond to children - sometimes without us even realising it.

I believe that sometimes what we need is not another parenting strategy - but more spaces to pause, reflect, and connect with fellow parents & caregivers navigating similar experiences.

🌱 I'd love to invite you to join me at Connecting Narratives for Change 2026, hosted by @ourcommongroundsg

I'll be part of the facilitator team at the Instinct or Intention: What Shapes the Way We Care for Children?, convened by my friends at @playeum and @chapterzerosg

Together, we'll be watching SEEN, a documentary exploring how our childhood experiences influence the way we raise and care for children, followed by facilitated conversations and reflections.

🎁 GIVEAWAY: WIN 1 SESSION PASS!

I'd love to gift one parent/caregiver a complimentary single-session pass (worth $35).

This pass gives you access to this particular session, including the documentary screening and facilitated conversations.

To participate:

1. Follow this account and like this Reel ❤️
2. Tag a fellow parent / caregiver of children who might
appreciate this conversation

⏰ Giveaway closes Monday, 12 October 2026, at 11:58 PM (Singapore Time).

One winner will be selected at random from eligible entries and contacted via Instagram DM on 13 October.

See you there 👋

There are many things for which you cannot be grateful. But in every moment, you can be grateful.
— Brother David Steindl-Rast

Amidst the sorrow of considering all we could lose, I want to remember the joy of all we still have… life-nourishing, communities of sustenance… lights that have kept me going in the darker hours of each day… sources of small yet significant peace… the quiet voices that have kept me from drowning…

friends, thank you. thank you. thank you.
~J

The root of joy is gratefulness . . .
It is not joy that makes us grateful;
it is gratitude that makes us joyful.

It’s taken a while for me to be still and reflect, after my first session of a Community of Reflection held at @ourcommongroundsg back in May. But, here it is! I'm trying a new way of sharing my thoughts.

And with that - we’ve crossed six months into 2026!

As I look back at the past six months of 2026, I feel.. grateful, yet inadequate - in the sense that there are so many things I can improve in. So far, I've:

-> practised writing down one thing I like, and didn’t like about each day (inspired by @forestschoolsingapore)

-> continued to jump in between multiple ‘universes’ in my life, and not lose my sense of self

-> found myself not breathing well, literally, back in in May. This June, it has been better.

As I look back at where my time and energy has been, I realised that there are things I need to reflect further on, that will inform where I would like to go in the future.

May we all make breathing space for ourselves. Blessed July, everyone!

Next Community of Reflection is up on 24 Jul, Fri: bit.ly/CG-COR

P/S: Background photos feature the beautiful spaces within Common Ground Civic Centre @ Bedok. Nice hor? Available for public bookings! Check out our website ourcommonground.com.sg 😉 while it lasts!

Play is how children participate. Through play, children make visible their ideas, feelings and hopes.

This International Day of Play, children show us the change they want to help create in Singapore and beyond. Take a moment to listen to what they have to say.

How might we create change not just for children, but WITH them?

Watch the full video: tinyurl.com/plyidop26 #linkinbio

This video was built with imagination, supported by the LEGO Group, and crafted together with our friends at The Black Sampan. We are deeply grateful to all the children, playmakers, and volunteers who shared their time, creativity, and voices.

Meaningful engagement with children and families often begins not with knowing what to say, but with noticing, listening, and responding with curiosity.

Alongside our parent-child play sessions for KidSTART Singapore families, Playeum also ran volunteer training sessions to help volunteers connect more thoughtfully with parents and children.

The training highlighted the different roles volunteers could take on, such as greeters or playmakers, each with suggested prompts and strategies to ensure interactions offered families choices and supported children’s voices.

Volunteers, including SP Group employees and members of the public, learned to observe family interactions, start conversations with curiosity, and support parents in joining their children’s play.

By approaching interactions with genuine interest, volunteers built rapport and encouraged parent-child exploration. Through these experiences, they became part of an enabling environment that nurtures play, reflection, and encouragement - skills they can carry forward in supporting families beyond the sessions.

Calling all young changemakers in Singapore! With the support of the LEGO Group, Playeum builds on the voices of 201 children in Singapore who shared what matters most to them in 2024.

This May, we invite children aged 5 to 12 to deepen the conversation with us through “What Matters to Our Children?” — a playful Build the Change workshop where their voices take centre stage.

Through hands-on building with LEGO bricks and other creative activities, children will express what matters most to them and share how adults can better listen and support them. The workshop will be filmed, capturing their ideas and the process of play as part of our 2026 International Day of Play campaign.

This campaign aims to amplify children’s voices and bring their perspectives to a wider audience, including more children and decision-makers.

Workshop Details
📅 Sunday, 3 May 2026
⏰ 9.30am – 12.45pm
📍 Common Ground Civic Centre (near Bedok MRT)
💛 Free participation

If your child is interested in joining the workshop, please complete the indication of interest form here: tinyurl.com/wmtc0305

More details about the workshop can also be found in the form.

We’re grateful to continue learning with and from children, and to create spaces where their voices are heard in ways that matter to them.

“What would you like your family to do when you wear your hat?”

“A chicken dance.”
“A hug.”

These were some of the ideas children shared during a playful “Silly Hats” crafting activity at a parent–child play session. In these lighthearted moments, play opened up a safe space for children’s voices to emerge creatively.

Over the past few months, Playeum collaborated with KidSTART Singapore to run a series of PowerUP Playtime parent–child play sessions. Through hands-on activities involving loose parts such as blocks, cardboard boxes, and even light and shadow, parents had opportunities to practice skills that support their children's play. Many discovered how simple materials could spark storytelling, building, experimentation, and imagination.

Thoughtful parent–child interactions began to emerge: encouragement, patience, quiet observation, and trying new things together. Activities like making “Silly Hats”, Block Stacking Challenge, Shadow and Light Play became opportunities for role play, taking turns, and mediating disagreements.

We are grateful to families, volunteers, SP Group and KidSTART Singapore. These play sessions remind us that with time, open-ended materials, and encouragement, meaningful play and learning flourish together.
