Thank you to everyone who came together to share ideas, build relationships, and explore opportunities to strengthen the future of our community. The collaboration between Champaign County and the African American Contractors Association, represents an exciting step toward the continuation of workforce opportunities, supporting minority-owned businesses, developing skilled trades professionals, and creating pathways for the next generation. This is just the beginning! Through continued partnership, shared vision, and collective action, we can build a stronger local economy where opportunity, growth, and success are within reach for all. Special thank you to Omar Shareef (AACA & Rainbow Push), William Taylor (African American Plumbing Association) for sharing your resources and knowledge with us today. Also, thank you, Marlon (First Followers), Kevin (East Central Illinois Building Trades), Drew and Rob (CCHA YouthBuild) and everyone who spoke at today’s event. 🚧 DELIVERING RESULTS FOR PINOLE: Road Improvements Underway 🚧 Neighbors — we’re continuing to invest in the streets and infrastructure Pinole residents rely on every day. Pavement rehabilitation is now underway on Shea Drive, Pinole Valley Road, and Marlesta Road — part of our ongoing work to maintain and improve Pinole’s streets. For me, delivering results at the local level means taking care of the fundamentals: investing in our infrastructure, putting public dollars to work, and turning plans into improvements residents can actually see and experience. 📍 HERE’S WHAT’S AHEAD: SHEA DRIVE Pinole Valley Road → Sarah Drive 🔹 Week of Oct. 5: Speed bump installation 🔹 Week of Oct. 12: Raising iron 🔹 Week of Oct. 19: Final striping PINOLE VALLEY ROAD Pinole Valley Bridge → Simas Avenue 🔹 Week of Oct. 5: Dig-outs + crack filling 🔹 Week of Oct. 12: Crack filling + slurry treatment 🔹 Week of Oct. 19: Striping MARLESTA ROAD Appian Way → Marionola 🔹 Week of Oct. 5: Milling + filling 🔹 Week of Oct. 12: Raising iron 🔹 Week of Oct. 19: Final striping 🚗 WHAT TO EXPECT During construction, residents may experience temporary lane closures, slower traffic, construction noise, and occasional driveway access delays during active paving. No-parking areas will be posted in advance, so please watch for signage and allow extra travel time. Work is currently anticipated to continue through October 31, 2026, although weather and construction conditions may affect the schedule. I know construction brings temporary inconvenience. But the result matters: safer, smoother, better-maintained streets and infrastructure that serves our community for years to come. Thank you for your patience with our crews and contractors — and thank you to our City staff and Public Works Department for moving these improvements forward. ☎️ QUESTIONS OR SPECIAL ACCESS NEEDS? 📧 My office: dmurphy@pinole.gov 📞 Pinole Public Works: (510) 724-9910 📞 Contractor Field Office: (510) 632-7676 📲 Please share this with neighbors who live or travel through these areas.

We’re leading the Mayor’s Playbook 📘 in partnership with the National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals (@ncbmp_ ), CEO Jason Dunn, and the African American Mayors Association (@ourmayors ). Announced at the State of Black Tourism during the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference in D.C., with Mayors Brandon Scott (Baltimore), Quinton Lucas (Kansas City), and Van Johnson (Savannah) on stage. Why it matters: Black meetings and events generate more than $113 billion in economic impact a year. That’s 12% of the U.S. meetings industry, 578,000+ jobs, and $15.1 billion in tax revenue (Tourism Economics for NCBMP, 2025). Our role: turn that data into a tool mayors can use to win the business and make sure it leaves something behind in the neighborhoods that host it. Data, measurement, and working alongside government are what we do. Thank you to Jason Dunn and NCBMP. Our founders have known Jason for 20+ years, and it’s an honor to put our expertise behind his vision. #BlackTourism #NCBMP #AAMA #MayorsPlaybook #CBCALC EconomicImpact MeasureWhatMatters

🔥🏀 TAPE DON’T LIE! 100 YEARS OF GLOBETROTTER HISTORY! 🌎💯 Big shout out to my friend @tiffany_bree_ for sending me this remembrance video! She said it popped up on her timeline, she shared it with me, and now I’m sharing it with YOU. ❤️ Man… THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES! 🙏🏾 I enjoyed every moment of that journey. I put in 18 GOOD YEARS with the @harlemglobetrotters Harlem Globetrotters — traveling the world, entertaining millions, making memories and leaving my mark on this incredible 100-year history. 🌎🏀💯 Do I want to go back and run up and down that court again with them? 😂 NOPE! I’ll leave that to the next generation! I’m thankful for the journey I had, but I’m even more thankful for the journey I’m on NOW. That’s what life is about — EVOLVING. GROWING. BECOMING BETTER. And one thing about that footage… TAPE DON’T LIE! 🎥🔥 If you don’t remind them, sometimes they’ll try to forget you. And one thing for sure — I AIN’T GONNA LET YOU FORGET ME! 😂💯🎬✅🎭📺🤳🏾☎️📞❤️ I know what I brought to the game. I know the work I put in. I know the impact I made. Like one of my friends told me, everybody CLOSE to you might not tell you — but sometimes you have to KNOW for yourself. I was one of the greatest at what I did, and I walk with that confidence while continuing to lead by example and become even better today. WHATS greater than the greatest? Never satisfied. Sometimes the love comes from the OUTSIDE more than it does from those closest to you. Either way, I’m grateful for ALL the love. ❤️🙏🏾 Enjoy this remembrance of a few moments from my Globetrotter journey. 👇🏾 What do YOU remember about Flight Time? Drop it in the comments! 18 GOOD YEARS. 🏀 100 YEARS OF HISTORY. 💯 TAPE DON’T LIE. 🎥 KINDNESS IS FREE. ❤️ HERB LOVES YOU, BABY! #TapeDontLie #100Years #HarlemGlobetrotters #FlightTime
