💿This photo was taken THIRTY years ago today!

Meet 16 year old me at my first music retail job; Our Price in Stirling on the 5th September 1996. It turned out to be the start of a career that has seen 8 record shops from Stirling to Dundee to Sydney to Edinburgh.

It is such a privilege to sell music for a living and to be surrounded by people and things that I love. Thank you to all of you for making it possible.

Here’s to another 30 years in the music business. I’ll dust this photo off again in 2056 by which time Minidiscs will be the major format, folk will still be saying ‘records are making a comeback’, Oasis will still be on their reunion tour and Taylor Swift will be POTUS.

I’ll leave you with a few stats from that fateful day in 1996;

No.1 single - ‘Wannabe’ by The Spice Girls
No.1 album - ‘Jagged Little Pill’ by Alanis Morrisette
My 1st sale - ‘Ready or Not’ by Fugees on cassette single

Who says the 90’s was all about the lads?

It’s impossible to picture the dawn of the 1980s without imagining David Bowie striding confidently into the new decade, not so much easing in as announcing his arrival with characteristic flair.

Recorded at the legendary Power Station in New York, Let’s Dance came together in a whirlwind seventeen days. There was no time for drawn-out studio myth-making; Bowie and his band simply stepped in, laid down the tracks, and emerged with a collection of songs destined to become instant classics.

It’s one of the few Bowie albums on which he solely sings.

The Let’s Dance video was shot in Australia, transforming the song into a full-fledged cinematic moment rather than merely a single, and the visuals went worldwide.

Starting at No. 5 in the UK charts, rose to No. 1 two weeks later, and sold 471,000 copies in 1983, making it the fourth-best-selling single.

Our Price Spice Girls Posters Promotional Standee (1997)

🔵 It’s not clear why an Our Price-specific poster standee exists, however large music retailers may have been provided with promotional images of the Spice Girls to use for their own branded displays. Although Our Price is not mentioned on the item, the fonts and colours used suggest that Our Price is the source of the item.

With a Rankin red chairs photo at the base and an Adrian Green red sofa shot in the middle, posters can be stored inside the narrow standee. ❤️
