Photo of the day Escape, Reconnect, Recharge, Discover "On Country Youth Leadership Camp" We recently had the pleasure of hosting the amazing staff and students from Carnarvon Christian School on a Youth Leadership Camp 🙂 There were many firsts for these amazing kids and many challenges that we faced 🙂 However, each challenge was another opportunity to build capacity and we are very grateful that we were invited to be part of their life journey 🙂 #aboriginaltourism #youthleadershipcamp #gutharraguda #theplaceoftwowaters #sharkbayworldheritagearea

Photo of the day Escape, Reconnect, Recharge, Discover "Spike the Echidna" Our guests are always excited to see one of these fullas. And, with the cooler weather, we are seeing more activity and their tracks criss crossing the red dirt track 🙂 Their back feet face backwards. So, their footprints face back and it's a challenge to track which direction they are heading 🙂 We also see them along the beach and through the dunes as they search for food and water 🙂 #aboriginaltourism #culturalwalkingtours #gutharraguda #theplaceoftwowaters #sharkbayworldheritagearea

A very special way to wrap up this year’s Yeagarup clean-up. This year we removed an estimated 200 kg of rubbish — around 3.7 m³ — from the Yeagarup area. That’s still far too much, but it’s also a major reduction on previous years, which is really encouraging. A huge thank you to Friends of Yeagarup, including those who travelled from Perth and beyond and made a weekend of it, along with DBCA, Keep Australia Beautiful WA, Tangaroa Blue, the Pemberton YES Cadets and every volunteer who came along and helped. And there was something very special waiting for us at Crossings Bakery. Behind us in the photo is a crab-net wreath created by artist Merle Davis, using rubbish collected during our 2025 Yeagarup clean-up. The artwork was organised by the wonderful Shirley from Keep Australia Beautiful WA as a reminder of what is being removed from these places — and why these clean-ups matter. It will now be on display at Pemberton Crossings Bakery. Every year, we hope there is a little less to collect. #Yeagarup #WABCU2026 #KeepAustraliaBeautifulWA #PembertonWA #tangaroablue

Photo of the day Escape, Reconnect, Recharge, Discover "Beach Clean Up" A few years ago, we competed a Beach Clean Up at Mystery Beach, Wirruwana (Dirk Hartog Island) with kids from Carnarvon Flexi School. It was one of our very first camps and we collected 18 bags of rubbish. We partnered with @tangaroablue, who then separated the rubbish into various items and used for recycling. It is our goal of our Youth Leadership Camps to work with our community partners create the space for our young people to get involved in conservation projects 🙂

The inaugral Pollinator Picnic, brought to you by Nearer to Nature 💚 🐝 🦋 🪲 🐦 🌸 🎉 Part of Spring into Parks, this buzzy event invited families to celebrate our buzzy pollinator friends - we had book readings of Amy the Amegilla by the Bee Babette (Dr Kit Prendergast), a pollinator costume catwalk parade, wildflower walks, spring cleaning of bee hotels, pollinator art and craft, and bubbling bee activities (with real Exoneura bees showing us how it’s done!) It was really abuzz - almost 130 people turned up, all keen to get out and explore, learn about pollinators, and connect with nature. We intend to make our Pollinator Party an annual event - we look forward to an even bigger and buzzier party next year! If beeple would like to introduce their human larva to our adorable native bees, check out my books about Amy Amegilla, email me at kitprendergast21@gmail.com for a copy or grab the ebook on my Bee Babette Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TheBeeBabette/posts/amy-is-amegilla-162775714 Thank you to Emma Schoknecht to bring this dream of a pollinator picnic to life! Thank you also to WA Parks for sponsoring this event. . . . #pollinators #spring #natureeducation #buzz #nativebees @ourwaparks @nearer_to_nature @invertsau @wabetterbynature @costasworld @wheenbeefoundation @walovesnature @inspiringwa

🎒THE FINAL REVEAL! 🔥 1.3KG SHAVED OFF MY BACKPACK! The challenge is complete! 💪 I started with an 88L Highlander Forces backpack weighing 2.75kg and set out to see just how much weight I could strip away to make it more ultralight. After removing material, ditching the hip belt and support brackets, and making some serious cuts, the final result is in… ⚖️ Original weight: 2.75kg ✂️ Weight removed: 1.3kg 🎯 NEW WEIGHT: 1.45kg! That’s almost HALF the original weight gone! 🤯 Was it worth the effort? Could this be a budget-friendly way to make a heavy pack more suitable for lightweight adventures? Or have I gone too far with the modifications? 😂 Let me know what you think in the comments! Would you modify your own backpack to save weight? This is all part of the journey to make my hiking adventures lighter, cheaper and more accessible. 🥾🌿 #UltralightBackpacking #BackpackingGear #HikingAustralia #DIYGear #HikeForChange

🎒 The Ultralight Backpack Challenge – Episode 3! The mission to turn my 2.75kg backpack into an ultralight pack continues! 🔥 In this episode, I upgrade from a bowl to a storage container to catch all the cut-offs, keep stripping back the material, and make one of the biggest changes yet… removing the hip support and belt! The difference is noticeable. When I put the pack on, I can genuinely feel a significant amount of weight gone already! 💪 But just how much weight have I managed to shave off this 88L Highlander Forces backpack? 👀 Episode 4 is the FINAL episode, where I reveal the total weight, how much I’ve removed, and whether this experiment has been worth it! What do you reckon the final weight will be? Drop your guesses below! ⬇️ #UltralightBackpacking #BackpackingGear #HikingAustralia #HikingGear #HikeForChange

Photo of the day Escape, Reconnect, Recharge, Discover "Bush Pharmacy & Supermarket" One of the most common natural bush remedies to treat skin warts is using the sharp needles from the "Currara Tree". The seeds are edible and have a taste similar to garlic and the "utbi (bark) can be used to make a tea for high blood pressure. It has many other uses too 🙂 Everything has a use and we consider most plants to either provide food or medicine 🙂 Our Old People (Ancestors) have relied on their knowledge and connection to country to treat all sorts of ailments. We invite you to join us on our Tracks and Trails Tour to learn more 🙂 #aboriginaltourism #tracksandtrailstour #gutharraguda #theplaceoftwowaters #sharkbayworldheritagearea

No instant previews. No checking the back of the camera after every shot. Just an afternoon exploring, looking for good light, and trusting the process. This was the first test roll through Elaine, my Canon EOS 50E, after repairing her rear door latch. Loaded her with Kodak UltraMax 400 and took her out to see what she could do. And this is exactly why I want to offer more film portrait sessions through Sladen Photography. It's a different kind of photoshoot. Less about getting hundreds of near-identical images, and more about making each frame count. The grain, the colours, the anticipation of getting your scans back. That's all part of it. 📷 @canonanz EOS 50E (Elaine) 🎞️ @kodak UltraMax 400 🧪 Dev & scan by my friends at @irohasphoto.perth 🧍‍♀️ @mrsteaslays Film portrait sessions available through @sladenphotography #FilmPortraits #35mmFilmPhotography #KodakUltraMax400 #PerthPhotographer #FilmPhotography
