POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Before Porcupine Tree became a band, Steven Wilson had given it a history. In 1987, Wilson and Malcolm Stocks created a psych group with imaginary members and a false discography. Wilson recorded music to bring that fiction to life. The experiment grew into a real band, but the impulse behind it lasted: to make music feel as though it belonged to a world beyond the record itself.

That instinct has shaped Wilson’s work ever since. The Raven That Refused to Sing draws on classic ghost stories, while Hand. Cannot. Erase. mines the very real case of Joyce Vincent to imagine the life behind an unnoticed death. With The Harmony Codex, a short story became the seed of an album. Across these projects, Wilson works as an auteur, uniting songs, production and story.

Requiem for a Village, arriving on 6 November, takes us to an imagined corner of rural Britain. Stanley Spencer’s paintings hang in its local gallery; the stories of M.R. James and Algernon Blackwood line its library shelves; the ghostly folk of Children of the Stones inhabit its market square. Andy Partridge of XTC wrote the narration, read by David Tennant, while Randy McStine, Russell Holzman and Katherine Priddy add to the music.

Wilson’s recording process follows the same spirit of discovery. He used wild analogue synths, loose tuning and instruments he was still learning, seeking what he calls the “metaphorical thumbprints” of human performance.

The village extends beyond the album via requiemforavillage.com, a parish council website frozen in 1999. Hall hire and bin rotas sit alongside a body found in 1974 and an Autumn Festival set for release day. Its train timetable offers a single departure at 11:06, arriving back in the village at the same time. The guestbook references Porcupine Tree and The Raven That Refused to Sing, though no direct connection is confirmed.

At The Revolver Club, we love this kind of detail, and can’t wait to hear how the music brings this odd place to life.

Ahead of the 6 November release, we’ll host free listening sessions across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa and Hyderabad. The double LP, featuring an India-exclusive art print, is available for pre-order on our website.

Steven Wilson’s ninth studio album moves in a very different direction from 2025’s The Overview. Where that record looked outward into the depths of space, Requiem For A Village turns inward to an unknown corner of the British Isles — a village removed from the modern world, existing somewhere beyond time and place.

Across its 54 minutes, Wilson embraces analogue instrumentation, imperfections and studio accidents, working with Randy McStine, Russell Holzman and Katherine Priddy. The album also features narration written by Andy Partridge of XTC and voiced by David Tennant.

A strange, intimate and cinematic record — one Wilson describes as a journey that ultimately led him “to the village.”

Pre-order Requiem For A Village now, and join us to hear the album in full before release.

If you are an artist, connecting with your audience does not mean you have to share your private life.

You can give your fans a glimpse into your world through behind-the-scenes moments, song snippets, unreleased content or little things that they cannot find anywhere else.

The important thing is to give your audience something they can connect with while still keeping your personal life private.

A decade. That’s how long it’s been since Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, and The Rajasthan Express holed up inside a 15th-century fort in Jodhpur to make Junun — an album The Sunday Times named one of the most inspired releases of that year, one that Paul Thomas Anderson turned into a documentary, and one most fans assumed would never have a sequel.

They were wrong.

Ranjha arrives May 8, and the story of how it got here is as unlikely as the project itself. The group never intended to wait a decade between releases, but COVID-19, Radiohead’s own creative plans, and other disruptions slowed everything down. Songs for Ranjha first took shape while touring globally with Radiohead in 2017 and 2018, followed by writing sessions in Italy — before the pandemic shelved it indefinitely. For years, the material sat in limbo, waiting for the right moment to breathe.

Meanwhile, Greenwood has been everywhere. His score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another earned an Oscar nomination, with the film going on to win Best Picture. Radiohead returned for 20 arena dates across Europe in late 2025 — their first shows in seven years. He also made Jarak Qaribak with Dudu Tassa, where singers crossed borders to reinterpret beloved Middle Eastern songs. Ben Tzur, too, never paused — deepening his life in Rajasthan and performing with The Rajasthan Express across India.

But when they finally reconvened, they chose Greenwood’s Oxfordshire studio over Mehrangarh Fort. Twenty-one musicians. Sam Petts-Davies producing. Tom Skinner from The Smile on drums. A completely different setting — but the same fearless spirit.

What hasn’t changed is the alchemy: an Israeli-American who moved to Ajmer after discovering Indian classical music at 19; a Radiohead guitarist more at home with alienation than spirituality; and a brass-heavy ensemble rooted in Sufi qawwali and Manganiyar folk. Together, they create something none could alone.

As Ben Tzur puts it: you feel this music on your body first. Then it reaches your heart. Then come the words. Ranjha is a window into a phenomenal tradition. Walk through it.
