The annual magical Humboldt playground summertime art and music fest of your dreams ✨☁️🧿 2027 dates TBD. Enjoy past years’ magic here for now :)

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Participatory and rebel theater in the woods explored the Rumi’s poem “The Guest House” through psychodrama, grotesque theatre, architectural design, masks, and poetry — with a beginning, but no middle or end.

Over 100 hours were spent in researching emotions, human evolution, and animals; sculpting and building. I felt like a strong little kid hauling lumber and couch deep into the woods, while the blackberry bushes pulled my hair and clothing.

I watched my friend teach me how to level a door on an uneven surface. He will forever be one of the most humble builders I know.

I share the quantity of the hours because it’s poetic — how one can become devoted to something where it is always a joy to work. Just like the Sufis...

New sounds greeted me as I fell asleep under the stars —screeching owls.

I loved watching people during the day rather than having people watch me.

It’s been my dream to create an immersive theater experience in the woods for people ever since a piece someone else created touched my life in unpredictable ways while I was candy-flipping at a gathering around 2018.

I witnessed this experience bring tears and laughters to people’s beautiful faces, and received many gifts — including a pack of cigarettes — through the creation process.

Some took selfies and left.

Some stayed in and explored the masks.

One woman wore the mask of the anger/snarl apparently because she liked pink. She truly couldn’t play the snarl.

Instagram didn’t feel like the right medium to share it, so I didn’t for months.

I desire for you to read the “Guest House” poem while you take a walk into the sunset or sunrise.

I desire for you to role-play and get intimate with every guest.

And ENTERTAIN THEM ALL!

Fun fact:
The BROOM flew during strike

The thing I love about installation art is that it meets each person who experiences it in the moment they are in. The artist can try to influence how people will interact with their art, but there is ultimately no control. Much different than hanging a painting on a gallery wall.

I wasn’t able to be present during the event, so I was so happy when @humboldtcommunitysoundhealing sent me this video! It warmed my heart so much, you have no idea!

The evening when I hung these was so peaceful, I didn’t want to leave. To put things in perspective, it was a Thursday after a hectic week trying to finish these hand-folded giant origami pieces. I also had a craft fair the next day to pack for, so I wasn’t done yet, but this pause was a perfect moment.

The thing I love about installation art is that it meets each person who experiences it in the moment they are in, even the artist. The artist can try to influence how people will interact with their art, but there is ultimately no control. Much different than hanging a painting on a gallery wall.

In this case, things were hung low enough for people to touch, so I knew things could get bent or torn. All part on the installation. It was quite windy that night, so there was a possibility things would fly away. Part of the installation.

After I picked everything up a week later (only the ends of some of the leaves were frayed), the balls got a short second life hanging on my porch and at the Obon Festival. Actually, one of my failed attempts at an origami crane was gifted to a young boy there, so the project lived on in a small way.

I hope everyone who attended Outer Roominations enjoyed my art. I hope your cup was filled by the setting and all the art, as it was for me! If you don’t hear about the event in time, keep an eye out for next year. It’s so special!

special thanks to @nickitysnickity for providing the paper!

So glad I chose my beloved #ektar film for @outer.roominations . The warm, vivid colors and fine grain make my heart sing. I absolutely loved my time at this whimsical art festival and feel grateful to have captured some free-spirits in their element ^^ . If you see anyone you know, please tag them in the comments! :)

I’ve listened to this song about 10,000 times the last month. It’s an anthem at this point 💛🌞 happy to be able to take part in the outer ruminations this county provides for this community. What a gift. Quality river exposure balanced with work in the garden? Necessary for summer survival. Seeing joeys personality ignite even deeper? The highlights of it all.

This past weekend at @outer.roominations ✨

I kept this one loose, messy, and weird. Not how I normally paint but it felt good to switch things up. Thank you Outer Roominations for once again having me out there.

The last clip shows all the paintings I’ve done at the event’s previous years.
