This August I was invited to archive Toronto’s Summer Love-In dance festival, which was presented in partnership with my pals at Oversize.Load this year.

With the organizer’s openness to interpretive archiving, I decided to create this year’s archive in poems + photos. Poem excerpts, select photos, and archival reflections are up on my substack for your reading pleasure >>> darianwrites.substack.com + link in bio

Thanks @tolovein + @oversize.load for trusting me <3

to kick off week two, we are so lucky to have jaamil return to the Love-In. 🌅 they hosted a series with us in 2021. jaamil's sessions will be digital via zoom—to participate from your cozy space. they are short and sweet 9am - 10am august 7, 8, and 10.

about the session ↓
Towards Embodied Poetics and Other Dramaturgies of Care

Care is a concept often invoked to cope with harm and crises, but how do we practice care within creative communities as well as within the folds of our everyday lived experiences? Week 2 of Summer LoveIn invites artist, author, and curator jaamil olawale kosoko to consider how writing, curation, and performance-making may lead towards the critical acts of care we need and deeply desire within our creative-living environments.

Personal mentoring sessions are also available as an extension of the workshop and salon sessions. Participants and other cultural workers are encouraged to bring examples of care strategies they find useful in creating socially engaged performance actions that stretch textually and discursively across various genres of liveness and time based art forms. jaamil olawale Kosoko’s approach draws on research methods used in the fields of experimental dance/theater making and dance studies to see what the body can tell us about pressing social issues. From the stage, to the living room, to the nightclub, to the screen, to fantasy, to the privacy of one’s own room, we will explore how care rituals animate the physical art of living and creating in an ever changing world.

[image description: poster with cream background and red text reads: "jaamil olawale kosoko digital series August 7th / 8th / 10th 9:00 - 10:00am Summer Love-In. blank space and Love-In's logos sit in the bottom left corner. an image of jaamil fills sits in the middle. they are reading "all about love" by bell hooks and the image in a reflection on a tiny mirror someone is holding in the foreground.]
