I wrote the song Billionaires in 2006 in a kitchen in west London, just before I moved to Hackney. Bill Gates was the richest guy in the world at that point, worth $50 billion, which was a lot of money back then Aged 26 I thought the idea of billionaires existing was gross, and I’ve not changed my opinion since. On 3 November, when California votes on Prop 40 (YES to 40, NO to 41 & 42 please), Your Twenties is releasing the first track from a treasure trove of music we recorded between 2007-2009 Billionaires ‘26 was produced by Joseph Mount in 2009, shortly after we’d recorded the 7” vinyl version with Stephen Street (of Blur/Smiths fame). We loved that record but the album was going to be different Joe was in fresh off the back of the second Metronomy LP ‘Nights Out’ and was coming on in leaps and bounds as a producer - his ideas were on point and his sensibility absolutely A1 Can’t wait for you to hear it. When I moved to Sheffield from Manchester, one of my dreams was to design an exhibition for the Millennium Gallery — safe to say I was beyond excited to work with @sheffmuseums to design the New Horizons exhibition. New Horizons is all about Sheffield’s growing art collection — looking at what’s been added over the last decade and where it could go next. Featuring a mix of artists, from Grayson Perry and Lucian Freud to Bridget Riley, Lubna Chowdhary and Sean Scully. Bold and bright type ties the visual identity together, with a hero photograph of the Sheffield Ski Slope by Dan Holdsworth. Le 21 juin 2021, j’ai envoyé un mail pour proposer à @societyofficiel un article sur le maire du Grand Manchester, Andy Burnham, « probablement le prochain leader du parti travailliste et, beaucoup l’espèrent, le futur premier ministre. » Ma boule de cristal ne m’avait pas montré Sir Keir Starmer mais nous y voici donc. Cinq ans plus tard, ce fan d’Everton et de New Order devrait être intronisé d’ici quelques jours. Avant cela, il devait d’abord devenir député de la circonscription de Makerfield, entre Liverpool et Manchester, un amas de zones urbaines fatiguées séparées par des bouts de campagne bâtarde, brusquement devenu le centre névralgique de la politique britannique. Je m’y suis rendu trois jours, flanqué de @owenrichards à la photo, pour un reportage rempli de personnages aux profils variés : boucher, biker, syndicaliste, fleuriste, millionnaire fascisant, communicant menteur, buveur de bière amère, journaliste star survolté, activiste écolo apeurée… Et tout ce qu’ils ont pu me raconter, comme chaque débat, chaque discussion, chaque tension observés dans les rues de Makerfield durant ces jours de juin, offre un avant-goût des enjeux des prochaines grandes élections nationales, qui devraient opposer, en 2029, l’extrême droite au Labour de Burnham. L’Angleterre est composée de près de 10% de citoyens originaires du sous-continent indien. Parmi eux, beaucoup sont fans de football, mais très peu percent chez les pros: cette saison ils sont seulement 31, dont aucun n’évoluent en Premier League, pour plus de 4 000 joueurs professionnels dans tout le pays. I had a brilliant weekend on a workshop run by @toner.pz in Penzance, Following The Red River, which returned to some of the places that Jem Southam photographed for his Red River project. You can read all about it in a blog on my website (see profile for link). Thanks to Matt and his team and also the very brilliant @jemsoutham. You can see the first two images, beautifully printed and framed at Toner, alongside excellent images by the other workshop participants, for the next month or so.

What an absolutely incredible weekend with @jemsoutham and a beautiful group of people making work for our new exhibition ‘Following the Red River’ - It all started on Friday with a talk to the group by Jem about the work he made along the Red River back in the 1980’s - Then on Saturday we hit the road bright and early heading out to start our walk at Bolenowe, on to Brea and then finishing and the river mouth on Godrevy. We had every type of weather condition and it ended with one of the most beautiful rainbows we had ever seen. On Sunday the group selected 12 images each, which then were edited down to 4 with a final selection of 2 photographs each being selected and the printed by @beaconartlab This was then framed and hung, with the other side of the gallery featuring a drawn out line of the river by @jemsoutham and the images printed to make a map of the walk. The exhibition then opened at 5pm with a great crowd coming to see the show! A huge huge thank to everyone involved. It really was something special!
