After this performance my friend and studio mate Shawn asked a question that’s on a lot of other of peoples minds. “This piece doesn’t sound like a love letter? Why is it so violent and angry?” And I thought about it a lot. Over the last two years which have been the most rough physically mentally and spiritually, I have gained an understanding of what this “love” means. Love sucks. Love is painful. Love is hard. It is this love for music which brought me back to college.

Most of you know the struggles I’ve been through this last year especially. Agonizing pain and nerve damage with no explanation. I thought my music career was over. Yet it was the love of those who cared about me which brought me back. The sisters of life who told me they prayed for me and my health every single day, Father Jordan (my choir director) who offered me some of the greatest spiritual direction I’ve ever had and convinced me to not give up on music, studio mates who supported me in all of my endeavors, friends who always offered me an ear. All of these types of love were what brought this piece to life for me and why I decided to play it.
So here I am. I don’t really know where I was going with all of this but anyways, I want to dedicate this ugly, violent piece about love to everyone who has helped me in my ugly violent struggle to coming back to music school. I don’t know what I’m doing or how far I’m going, all I know is that for the first time in as long as I can remember I can say I’m really fucking happy.

“You who have made me see many sore troubles will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again.” - Psalms 71:20
