Big announcement coming soon!

Perhaps our greatest achievement restoring nature in the city to date has been installing this MiniNature Reserve at the Oxnard Public Library.

A little over two months after this garden was installed, we can already see nature reclaiming its rightful space in @downtownoxnard. Native strawberries are ripening, dark eyed juncos are scavenging, and painted ladies are feeding on the wildflowers. And now just before summer, a beautiful addition to the garden is on its way that will help future generations appreciate its importance. Keep following our page, to learn what it is.

This garden was a joint effort between @oxnardlibrary , @oxnardlibraryfriends and @mininaturereserve .

@citycorps spread cover mulch donated by @agrominpremiumsoils. And Parks staff removed the old struggling shrubs.

Plants were sourced from local nurseries including @matilijanursery, @yesyesnursery, Valley Growers Nursery, and @growingworkstpf. and seeds for wildflowers come from @bloombombs_org

And of course we can't forget all of the volunteers who participated in the planting, hand watering, and advocacy of this garden.

While waiting for the announcement, if you would like to help us continue in our mission to restore nature in the city, please consider donating to one of our fundraisers at the link in the bio. We have one to give away native plant kits next fall, one to help the 110 orange, and more.

On March 21, 2026, we partnered with the Oxnard Public Library to install a Mini Nature Reserve on the north side of the building as part of the 2nd annual Garden Fest. Together with 48 volunteers we ended up planting 217 plants representing the 3 primary ecosystems of Oxnard: coastal sage scrub, willow riparian woodland, and grassland. We hope this garden can continue to inspire and educate folks for many generations and that this kicks off a precedent for native plants in public spaces.

Big thank you to:
@oxnardlibrary
@oxnardlibraryfriends

All the volunteers who helped behind the scenes day of and day before!

Public Works for installing irrigation

@publiclandsnativenursery
@yesyesnursery and
 Valley Growers Nursery for donating some native plants

All of you who voiced your support for this garden and made it finally happen

@downtownoxnard for sponsoring some of the printing for this event

@bloombombs_org for donating seed bombs!

But we're not done yet, soon we will be installing educational signage thanks to funding from @mwdh2o .

We will be laying down a fresh layer of @agrominpremiumsoils cover mulch. Leaving pathways for folks to wander through and touch and smell the plants in the garden.

Please remember that we could not have done any of this without you and your support. Please continue to show up for native plants and tell your city council members how important it is to incorporate native plants in interactive public spaces.
