And Nov. 7, 1:30 pm the ballet school presents a free Nutcracker show for children at the Fredricksen Library--this has narration and audience participation--it's so much fun.

It has been such a pleasure watching you grow, Sylvie Gallo, @sylviegallo, from your very first day here at the Pennsylvania Ballet Academy, @paballetacademy, into the beautiful young ballerina you are today. ✨

Through all the classes, rehearsals, performances, successes, challenges, good days and difficult days, I have had the privilege of watching you learn, grow, and develop not only as a dancer, but as a young woman.

Now you are 14, and it is time for you to spread your wings and fly. 🦋

I am so proud of everything you have accomplished and all the hard work, dedication, and passion you have brought to the studio each day.

I am especially excited to share that Sylvie has been accepted to the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive in New York City, @abtschool, and will be joining the School of Philadelphia Ballet, @schoolofphiladelphiaballet, for the 2026–2027 school year. These are wonderful opportunities, and I know she will embrace them with the same determination and love for dance that she has shown throughout her years at PBA.

While it is never easy to watch a student leave, my greatest joy as a teacher is seeing my students pursue their dreams and continue their journey.

Always remember that no matter where life takes you, you will always be part of the PBA family, and I will always be here for you.

Congratulations, Sylvie. We are so proud of you and cannot wait to see where your journey takes you next. ❤️✨🩰

End of the school year speech at Pennsylvania Ballet Academy!
It is always bittersweet to reach the end of another school year. While we celebrate all that our students have accomplished, it is never easy to say goodbye and watch them move on to new adventures.
What many students may not realize is how much they impact our lives as teachers. We have the privilege of watching them grow not only as dancers, but as individuals.
Their dedication, perseverance, laughter, and unique personalities leave a lasting impression on us.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you and look forward to seeing where your dreams take you next! ❤️❤️❤️

So grateful for the beautiful artistic vision and choreographic contribution of Artur Babajanyan at Pennsylvania Ballet Academy. Your creativity, sensitivity, and passion brought something truly special to life for our dancers and our school. I’m so glad you shared this idea with me and that we were able to experience it together. It was a joy to see it unfold and become reality.

Congratulations on a wonderful achievement—thank you for your artistry, your heart, and your dedication. Deeply thankful and truly grateful.

Returning to the stage after five years was so much more than simply dancing again. It doesn’t feel the same as it once did, and it doesn’t look the same either. As professional dancers, we can be very hard on ourselves when we notice how much we’ve changed and that we no longer look the way we used to. And I think that is exactly what makes it so special.

I never imagined that one day I would stop dancing. It wasn’t a planned decision; life simply took a different path, and unexpectedly, I found myself away from the stage. That’s why stepping onto a stage again that night, even if only for this one time, carried a meaning that is difficult to put into words. It was a reunion with a part of myself that I thought had been left behind, but in reality had always remained within me.

And doing it through one of Artur’s choreographies made this moment even more meaningful. Feeling the music again, experiencing the nerves before stepping onstage, and rediscovering the joy of dancing reminded me how much dance means to me.

But the most beautiful part of that evening was not standing under the lights. It was looking up and seeing my daughter in the audience. I always dreamed that one day she would see me dance, that I could share with her such an important and happy part of my story and show her something that was once such a big part of my life. That gave this moment a value beyond measure.

Five years later, I returned to the stage in a role very different from the ones I used to perform. And this time I understood that some things, no matter how many years pass, never stop being a part of who you are. Dance is one of them.

Thank you, life, for bringing me back. Thank you, body, for allowing me to dance again. And thank you to my family for being beside me every step of the way. Thank you PBA

Having had the privilege of dancing many of Jerome Robbins’ extraordinary ballets with San Francisco Ballet, it means so much to now help preserve and pass these beautiful works on to the next generation of artists.
