At Oakwood Church, we support several local food distributions through the year, by collecting food in the blue bin in the main foyer 💙

In October please bring food donations which will go to @pafras_leeds They request:

* shampoo, toothpaste, shower gel, baby wipes and nappies
* rice, tinned fish, sugar, tea, coffee, biscuits, crisps and UHT milk

Thank you for your kindness and generosity! 💙🩵💙

Today, we’re opening the door.

Some of the most important work we do at Angels doesn’t happen on a football pitch, at an event, or during outreach.
It starts with a conversation over a brew, a new friendship, and someone realising they’re not alone.

That’s why we’re excited to be launching our new weekly Open Door session at the Angels Hub today. 💜

Open Door is a welcoming space where new and existing members can connect, spend time together, build friendships, and find out more about the activities and opportunities available through Angels of Freedom.

Whether you’re looking to meet new people, find your community, or simply enjoy some company and conversation, you’ll always find a warm welcome waiting for you.

📍 Angels Hub @oblongleeds
🕚 11:00am - 4:30pm
📅 Launching today
🔄 Weekly, alternating between Thursdays and Wednesdays

No booking required. Just drop in and say hello.

The kettle is on. ☕🌈

Where does belonging begin?

For many people, it’s that first conversation, first activity or first time walking through the door of a community group.

Our founder, Rob Wilson, has written a blog for Leeds Inspired reflecting on the power of belonging, why community spaces matter, and how connection can transform lives.

The piece explores the role that friendship, sport, volunteering and shared experiences play in building stronger, healthier and more connected communities across Leeds.

We’re proud to be part of that story.

💜 Read Finding Belonging in Leeds (access on the @leedsinspired website, or via our Linktree) and let us know what belonging means to you.

Food. Friendship. Belonging. 💛

A few moments from our Cultural Kitchen last week - our evening full of shared food, conversation, laughter and community connection.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the space feel so welcoming. Cultural Kitchen continues to be about so much more than the meal on the table. It’s about cultural pride, community wellbeing, friendship and belonging — creating space for people to connect, feel supported and enjoy being part of something together.

It was also brilliant to welcome visitors who spent time with us across the evening, including a speaker from PAFRAS, local Green councillors Tim and Eden, and Rev Heston from All Hallows. Having people join us in the space, share conversations, and learn more about the community we’re building means a lot.

These evenings are a reminder of what happens when people come together with openness, care and curiosity around food, around stories, and around a shared commitment to stronger, kinder communities.

✨ Want to join us next time?
Our September Cultural Kitchen will be available to book soon.

👉 Sign up to our free MeetUp group to be notified as soon as tickets are released. Spaces are limited each month, so joining MeetUp is the best way to receive your invitation and secure your place.

We’d love to welcome you around the table. 💜 #Leeds #LGBTQplus #LeedsLovesDiversity #FoodFriendshipBelonging #BeingYouLeeds

We are pleased to finally share our new Young Person’s Key Guide: Finding your way as a young person in the asylum and immigration system. Read it now via link in bio!

This guide has been written for children and young people who are in the UK without a parent or carer, and who are trying to understand the asylum and immigration system. Some parts may also be useful for young people who are here with family, or for adults supporting young people through the process.

It builds on the groundbreaking Young Asylum Guide, and was written in collaboration with @socialworkerswb , and shaped by the knowledge, experience and care of organisations, practitioners and young people themselves. In particular, a huge thank you to @pafras_leeds and the young people for their invaluable contribution.

If you have feedback, suggestions or updates, please contact Ally Swadling, our Lead Legal Education Officer, at ally@righttoremain.org.uk.

Saturday evening was the Graduation Party for the @sanctuarygottalents Raising Your Voices Theatre Class of 2026 held at the @chapel_fm Arts Centre in Seacroft, Leeds.

Alongside Karen, from @pafras_leeds, I was invited to talk, on behalf of @mesmachealth, to the attending graduates about the HIV and sexual health services and support available for people seeking sanctuary in Leeds.

It was an honour to be part of the evening and join with the graduates as they were celebrated for their achievements and to learn more about some of their personal journeys to sanctuary

Thank you to the amazing Wan for a warm welcome.
